SKILLMAN, N.J. --- Five members of the Moravian College men's and women's tennis teams have been named 2016 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar-Athletes.

Senior Matt Tuorto and junior Giovanni Lombardi from the men's team and senior Courtnie Lambert, junior Aisling Doyle and freshman Emily Reiter from the women's squad were named ITA Scholar-Athletes.

For a student-athlete to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete honors, they must maintain at least a 3.50 GPA, earn a varsity letter and be enrolled for at least two semesters. Over 4,200 student-athletes across all divisions were honored with ITA Scholar-Athlete status.

"Both teams consist of players who put heart and effort into their tennis and studies, so it is great to see that hard work acknowledged and I am not surprised to see so many of our tennis players selected for the ITA Scholar Athlete Awards," commented first year Head Coach Alan Heverly. "Aisling, Courtnie and Emily have all demonstrated hard work on the court, and Courtnie additionally provided the team with leadership as captain.

"Since Matt was awarded Moravian's Scholar Athlete Award, I am happy to see his efforts rewarded by the ITA," continued Heverly. "Gio work as hard at improving his game as any player I have ever coached. He is a great guy and I am proud to coach him. He should be very proud of this award and the effort on and off the court that it represents. Congratulations to all the players."

Tuorto made the 2016 Landmark All-Conference First Team in doubles with senior John Wylie after the duo set a single season school record with an 18-4 slate in doubles action. Tuorto, who was on the Landmark All-Conference First Team in doubles the last two years after making the Second Team his first two seasons, was also on the Landmark All-Conference Second Team in singles in 2016 after a First Team selection in 2015. He served as a captain for a third straight year, and Tuorto was 12-8 in singles action this year while playing in the top spot in the line-up again. Tuorto is a three-time member of the Landmark Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll, and completed his career with a school record mark of 56-33 in doubles with Wylie and a 43-44 career singles mark.

Lombardi had three wins in singles action while playing third singles most of the year. He also posted a 9-12 mark in doubles action as he and Tuorto helped Moravian to the ECAC Division III Outdoor Championship match for the second straight year.

Lambert led the women's squad with a 10-7 record in singles action including a 9-5 mark at third singles, and she also posted an 11-6 slate in doubles action with a 7-0 mark in the third doubles slot. Lambert finished the season by earning spots the Landmark All-Conference Second Team in both singles and doubles, and she was selected to the Landmark Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll for a third straight year and the Landmark Conference Spring All-Sportsmanship Team for a second consecutive spring.

Doyle had a 6-8 singles mark in her first year with the Greyhounds while seeing action at both fifth and sixth singles, and Doyle was 5-9 in doubles action while seeing time in all three flights. Reiter had a doubles win in her only action of the year.
