NEW ORLEANS, La. --- Junior Meg Brockett and sophomores Kyle Allison and Mary Kate Duncan from the Moravian College men's and women's track & field teams have been named United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic honorees for the 2015-16 season.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 and have met either of the following athletic standards: a student-athlete must have competed in an NCAA Indoor or Outdoor Championship or finished the regular season ranked in the national top 35 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 25 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org.
There were a total of 293 males and 423 females on the Division III level to earn USTFCCCA Track and Field All-Academic honors this past spring. The Moravian women's team also earned All-Academic Team honors, one of 175 Division III women's teams to earn the honor after posting a team GPA of 3.22.
"The USTFCCCA All Academic team and individual awards represent what it truly means to be a student-athlete," commented Head Coach Jesse Baumann. "It takes a lot of discipline, hard work, and focus to excel at just one of the criteria for this award, and to excel in both is exemplary. Meg, Kyle, and Mary Kate each sustain very strong GPAs but have also qualified for the NCAA Championships, in fact Mary Kate earned her first All-American award in May, so it shows the level of student-athlete this award recognizes. Our program is certainly proud of these three and our women's team for earning this honor, and as a coaching staff it's what we hope many more athletes who come through this program will achieve."
Brockett finished the indoor season ranked 16th in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:25.67 to qualify for the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships. Brockett then placed 12th at the NCAA meet in 17:37.10, which is the fourth fastest time in school history. Brockett is a nursing major at Moravian.
Allison was 31st in the nation in the javelin throw heading into the NCAA Division III Championships with a mark of 58.28 meters (191-2). He is working on a degree in economics with a minor in physics.
Duncan earned All-America honors for a fifth place finish at the NCAA DIII Outdoor Championships with a toss of 44.19 meters (144-11), and she was sixth in the final TFRRS list at 44.93 meters (147-5). Those two throws rank as the 11th and 12th best throws in school history. Duncan is working on a major in public health with a minor in Spanish.
