TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian University freshman sprinter Javon McKay and sophomore jumper Jerome Luckey have been selected as the Landmark Conference Men's Track & Field Athletes of the Week for their performances last week.

McKay won three events with All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference qualifying marks at the 2024 Coach Pollard Invitational. McKay took first in the 100-meter dash finals in an AARTFC qualifying time of 10.59 seconds, which is tied for the fourth fastest time in program history, and he also won the 200-meter dash in an AARTFC qualifying time of 21.83 seconds. McKay ran the anchor leg of Moravian's 4x100-meter relay that won in an AARTFC qualifying, Moravian and Landmark Conference record time of 41.30 seconds.

"As well as Javon has been running this season, we knew through his workouts that an even bigger breakout was coming, we just didn't know when," commented Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Jesse Baumann. "Part of the issues with outdoors so far has been the weather being unfavorable at all of our meets. Highs in the 50s and winds over 30 mph each weekend just aren't conducive to fast times. We finally caught a break this weekend and luckily on our own facility. We were able to set up with a tailwind, the temps were much better, and we had some really good competition starting with the 4x100 and then extending to the 100m and 200m finals.

"With all of that being said, dropping around a third of a second in the 100 and a half second in the 200 isn't normal. However, this is also the first year he's had a full indoor season to build his training off of, so this is only the start of what he's capable of this year and then moving forward. It's extremely exciting for our team, our relay, and our program," Baumann finished.

Luckey was the runner-up in the high jump in the Coach Pollard Invitational at an AARTFC qualifying height of 2.07 meters (6-9.25), the second-best mark in program history.

"Jerome started the outdoor season strong at Muhlenberg a couple of weeks ago with a jump of 2.00 meters, but we were still patiently waiting for nice jumping weather," noted Jumps Coach Molly Sear. "It just so happened to line up perfectly that we got nice weather at home on Saturday for Jerome to jump a personal record and place himself fifth on the national list. After the indoor season wrapped up, Jerome wanted another shot on the national stage, and showed up this outdoor season to compete."

The Greyhounds are slated to return to action on Friday and Saturday, April 26-27 as the team travels to the John Covert Classic at Lehigh University. Moravian will also have a relay team run at the Penn Relays on Friday, April 26 at 1:35 p.m.
