Farrell Wins Third Landmark Conference Runner of the Week

TOWSON, Md. – Senior Dillon Farrell of the Moravian College men's cross country team was named the Landmark Conference Runner of the Week for the third time during the 2013 season thanks to his performance on the short course at the Dickinson College Long/Short Invitational on Saturday.

The senior harrier finished in fourth place overall out of 139 runners with a time of 12:15.3 on the 4,000-meter course, which is half the normal distance for college cross country. Brayden Burleigh of Shippensburg University, who is a transfer from NCAA Division I Virginia Tech, won the race in 12:04.7. Burleigh placed sixth at last year's ACC meet.

"Dillon is coming off some of the toughest training weeks we've ever had," head cross country coach Jesse Baumann said. "He has been running low-100 mile weeks a couple of times this month, so he didn't race quite as well as we had hoped, but it was still a strong race to finish within 11 seconds of someone who was sixth at the ACCs last fall."

Farrell's efforts helped the Greyhounds finish in fifth place out of 20 on the short course with a three-runner team score of 57. Shippensburg, an NCAA Division II program, won the event with 10 points.

"We'll focus on more quality workouts with lower volume from here on out and I'm confident Dillon will feel better going into his races and run even quicker," Baumann said. "I feel like he can sustain the pace he ran for the 4K during an entire 8K by the time we get to Princeton or later in the season."

The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Saturday, Oct. 5 at the Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh University on the Goodman Campus in Bethlehem.
