Farrell’s Record Run Garners Fifth Landmark Runner of the Week

TOWSON, Md. – Junior Dillon Farrell has been named the Landmark Conference Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week after breaking Moravian College and Landmark Conference records at the Princeton University Invitational on Saturday.

Farrell broke his own school and conference records in the 8,000-meter distance with a time of 24:35 at Princeton. He finished 28th out of 272 harriers at Princeton, and beat his previous school record of 24:44 by nine seconds after setting the mark on the same course in 2012. That time also set a new record in the Landmark Conference one year ago.

"My goal before I graduate is to get out of that 24-minute block and into the 23s," said Farrell, who refused to be satisfied after breaking his own records. "Just knowing that I'm getting better is good enough for me. Nothing is more frustrating for a runner than to plateau. I'm really happy with my progress."

Farrell was the third finisher from NCAA Division III at Princeton, which hosted a number of top-notch Division I cross country programs. He also finished 156 places ahead of his nearest Landmark competitor from The University of Scranton, the only other conference school to join Moravian at the event.

The Greyhounds return to the trails on Saturday, Nov. 2 at the Landmark Conference Championships at The Catholic University of America. The race is scheduled to start at noon.

Farrell and the Moravian men are two-time defending champions at the Landmark meet. The Greyhounds won the title in 2012 at the Ft. Roberdeau Historic Site hosted by Juniata College and also took the crown in 2011, when they hosted the event at Lehigh University.
