Greyhounds Sweep Susquehanna in Landmark Conference Action

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University softball squad swept visiting Susquehanna University, 8-0 in six innings and 8-1, in Landmark Conference action at Blue & Grey Field Saturday. 

How It Happened – Game #1

  • The Hounds jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning of the opener. Junior shortstop Holly Walter was hit by a pitch to start the inning, and she raced around the bases to score on an RBI double by junior first baseman Lindsey Gawrys. Junior right fielder Sage Snyder drew a walk and stole second before senior designated player Emily Silberman ripped a two-RBI single up the middle to score Gawrys and Snyder. When Gawrys crossed the plate, she gave Silberman her 100th career RBI with Silberman becoming the 11th player in program history to drive in 100 runs in a career
  • The Blue & Grey added a run in the bottom of the second for a 4-0 edge as senior pitcher Madi Cunningham drew a leadoff walk and eventually scored on a wild pitch
  • Moravian pushed three runs home in the bottom of the fifth for a 7-0 advantage. Sophomore catcher Marcie Silberman reached on an error before Snyder walked and Emily Silberman hit a single to load the bases. Later in the frame, Cunningham connected on a three-RBI double down the left field line to empty the bases
  • The Greyhounds scored the final run of the game in the bottom of the sixth when Gawrys reached on an error and Marcie Silberman ripped an RBI double
  • Cunningham tossed her third career no-hitter and second by an 8-0 score as she struck out three and faced the minimum 18 batters in the victory

How It Happened – Game #2

  • The Blue & Grey took another early lead with two runs in the bottom of the first to start the second game. Walter led off with a triple and scampered home on an RBI single by Marcie Silberman. Gawrys, who had walked, scored on an RBI sacrifice fly from Emily Silberman
  • The Hounds extended the lead to 6-0 with four runs in the bottom of the third. Marcie Silberman reached on a fielder's choice and Snyder singled. Emily Silberman drove in freshman pinch runner Madelin Cooper with an RBI single while Snyder and freshman center fielder Shayla Morgan raced across the plate on a two-RBI double by senior second baseman Ajala Elmore
  • The Rivers Hawks scored their only run of the day in the top of the fourth inning to make it 6-1
  • Moravian answered in the bottom of the fourth frame with a run for a 7-1 edge. Walter started the inning with a single, and she scored on an RBI single by Emily Silberman
  • The Greyhounds finished off the scoring with a run in the top of the sixth as March Silberman led off with a single and scored on an RBI groundout by sophomore third baseman Sydney Andrews
  • Sophomore pitcher Natalie Otto improved to 4-0 in the circle with a run on three hits and two walks to go with seven strikeouts 

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had 20 hits on the day with Emily Silberman going 4-for-4 with five RBIs, and she now sits eighth in program history with 104 career RBIs
  • Marcie Silberman was 4-for-8 on the afternoon with two RBIs, a run and two doubles while Walter had three hits, three runs and a triple
  • Gawrys collected two hits, three runs, a double and an RBI while Snyder added two hits and three runs
  • Elmore posted two hits, two RBIs, a run and a double in her return to lineup while Cunningham had a hit, a double, a run and three RBIs
  • Otto and junior left fielder Jessica Forder each had one hit with Otto adding an RBI
  • Morgan scored twice in the game while Andrews and Cooper each scored once with Andrews contributing an RBI
