Moravian Splits Doubleheader at Drew

MADISON, N.J. --- The Moravian University softball team split a Landmark Conference doubleheader at Drew University Sunday, winning the opener 11-0 in six innings before falling 4-1 in the second contest. 

How It Happened – Game #1

  • The Greyhounds opened the scoring in the top of the third. Senior second baseman Ajala Elmore led off with a single, and she raced home on an RBI single from junior shortstop Holly Walter
  • The Blue & Grey added four runs in the top of the fourth inning to extend the edge to 5-0. Junior first baseman Lindsey Gawrys started the frame with a single while senior designated player Emily Silberman singled and sophomore third baseman Sydney Andrews reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases. Elmore followed with a grand slam for her second home run of the season and seventh of her career
  • Moravian tacked on two runs in the fifth inning for a 7-0 advantage. Walter and Gawrys both singled while junior right fielder Sage Snyder was hit by a pitch to load the bases again. Silberman followed with a two-RBI single as Walter and Gawrys scored
  • The Hounds finished off the contest with four runs in the top of the sixth frame. Elmore began the inning with a single while sophomore pinch hitter Sarah DeStefano singled. Gawrys ripped an RBI single to chase Elmore home before sophomore catcher Marcie Silberman connected on a three-run homer, her team-leading seventh home run of the spring and 13th of her career to move into a tie for tenth in program history
  • Senior Madi Cunningham tossed her second straight shutout as she scattered three hits and a walk to go with three strikeouts

How It Happened – Game #2

  • The Rangers scored first in the second contest with four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning
  • Moravian got onto the scoreboard in the top of the sixth inning as Walter singled with one out and raced home on an RBI single by Snyder
  • Sophomore Natalie Otto allowed four runs on eight hits to go with seven strikeouts in the circle 

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had 18 hits in the two games with Walter going 4-for-7 with a triple, two runs and an RBI
  • Elmore was 3-for-6 with four RBIs, three runs and a homer while Gawrys went 3-for-7 with three runs and an RBI
  • Emily Silberman recorded a 3-for-6 day to go with a pair of RBIs while Marcie Silberman added two hits, a run, a homer and three RBIs
  • Snyder contributed two hits, a double and an RBI while DeStefano had a hit and a run
  • Andrews and freshman Shayla Morgan both scored a run
