Greyhounds Score 21 Runs in Non-Conference Sweep of Arcadia

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University softball squad swept a non-conference doubleheader from visiting Arcadia University, winning 12-0 in five innings and 9-1 in six innings, at Blue & Grey Field Tuesday. 

How It Happened – Game #1

  • The Greyhounds raced out to an 11-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning in the opener. Junior first baseman Lindsey Gawrys singled with one out while sophomore catcher Marcie Silberman reached on an error. Junior left fielder Sage Snyder singled to load the bases before senior designated player Emily Silberman connected on a grand slam to right center field, her third homer of the season and 19th of her career. Senior second baseman Ajala Elmore followed with a single and stole second base before racing home on an RBI single by sophomore third baseman Sydney Andrews. Sophomore right fielder Sarah DeStefano ripped an RBI single that chased home Andrews while senior pitcher Madi Cunningham walked and junior shortstop Holly Walter had an infield single to load the bases. Gawrys flew out, but a throwing error on the play allowed DeStefano, Cunningham and Walter to score. Marcie Silberman came back to the plate and hit a solo home run to left center, her 11th homer of the season, and Snyder followed with another solo homer to the same spot for her third homer of the year and sixth of her career to finish the scoring in the inning
  • The Blue & Grey added a run in the second inning to finish the scoring in the opener. Elmore led off with a single and crossed the plate on an RBI sacrifice fly from junior pinch hitter Ren Herschman
  • Cunningham improved to 12-2 in the circle as she tossed four innings with three hits and a walk to go with five strikeouts. Freshman Kyra Holtje finished the shutout with an inning a work, allowing one hit

How It Happened – Game #2

  • The Knights scored first in game two with a single run in the top of the second inning
  • Moravian countered with a six-run bottom half of the inning to take a 6-2 edge. Elmore and Andrew drew walks, and DeStefano singled to load the bases. Freshman center fielder Shayla Morgan hit an RBI fielder's choice as Elmore scored while Walter had an RBI single to chase Andrews home. Gawrys added an RBI groundout as DeStefano raced home before Marcie Silberman ripped a three-run homer to center field, her 12th home run of the season and 18th of her career
  • The Hounds tacked on a run in the bottom of the third inning as Elmore reached on an error and raced around the bases on an RBI triple down the right field line by DeStefano
  • The Blue & Grey finished the scoring with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Gawrys led off with a single, and she moved to third on a double from Marcie Silberman. Snyder connected on an RBI sacrifice fly to score Gawrys while Emily Silberman drove in her sister with the final run on an RBI single
  • Sophomore Natalie Otto tossed a complete game with an unearned run on seven hits and a walk to go with six strikeouts 

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had 23 hits on the day with Marcie Silberman going 4-for-6 with four RBIs, two homers, a double and four runs
  • DeStefano was 4-for-5 with two RBIs, two runs and a triple while Andrews had a 3-for-5 day with two runs and an RBI
  • Emily Silberman had a pair of hits with two runs, five RBIs and a homer while Snyder contributed two hits, two runs, two RBIs and a homer
  • Walter and Gawrys both had two hits, two runs and an RBI while Elmore added two hits and four runs
  • Morgan was 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI while freshman Emma Grace Pachkowski had a hit
  • Cunningham scored once while Herschman added an RBI
