George Powers Greyhounds to Sweep at DeSales

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. --- The Moravian College swept a non-conference doubleheader at DeSales University Tuesday afternoon, winning the opening game 7-2 and taking the nightcap 7-3.

The Greyhounds had 10 hits in the first contest, led by senior first baseman Jenn Dalickas, who was 3-for-4. Dalickas, who hit in the leadoff spot in the batting order, reached base in her first four plate appearance with three hits and a walk to extend her consecutive on-base streak to 25 plate appearances before a pop out in the top of the seventh inning. During the streak, Dalickas was 9-for-9 with 16 walks.

Senior second baseman Lizzie Mack was 2-for-3 for the Hounds while sophomore third baseman Chrissy Marinaro was 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs.

Moravian jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Dalickas led off the game with a single, and she would score on an RBI sacrifice fly by Mack. Senior center fielder Dior George drew a walk before Mack's at-bat, and George scored on an RBI single by sophomore left fielder Julie Siragusa.

The Greyhounds extended the lead to 4-0 with a pair of runs in the top of the second. Sophomore shortstop Lizzie Deutsch reached on an error and scored on a two-out RBI double to center field by Dalickas. Junior right fielder Mary Schlosbon followed with an RBI single to left field as Dalickas raced home.

DeSales got on the scoreboard with a run in the home half of the second inning. The Greyhounds would get the run back in the top of the third when Mack led off with a single and scored on an RBI single up the middle by Marinaro.

The Blue & Grey made the lead 7-1 with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth. Siragusa got the inning started with a walk, and she would score on an RBI single up the middle from Marinaro. Sophomore pinch hitter Victoria Conner connected on an RBI single to score Marinaro from second base.

The Bulldogs added a run in the bottom of the sixth to finish off the scoring in the opener.

Freshman Josie Novak earned the victory in the circle, improving to 8-3 on the year. Novak allowed two runs, on earned, on three hits and two walks while striking out eight batters.

In the second game, the Hounds had 11 hits with George, Schlosbon, Mack and sophomore catcher Niki Maffettone each going 2-for-3.

The Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning before the Greyhounds responded with run on the top of the second to tie the game. Siragusa led off the frame with a single, and she scored on an RBI single by Maffettone.

Moravian took the lead for good with two runs in the top of the third inning for a 3-1 advantage. Schlosbon started the inning with a single, and she scored on an RBI single to center field by Mack. Freshman second baseman Megan Taylor drove in Mack with an RBI single up the middle.

The Blue & Grey tacked on a run in the top of the fifth inning when George led off with a double down the left field line. Mack followed with an RBI double to left center to chase George home.

Moravian pushed three runs across the plate in the top of the sixth for a 7-1 lead. Dalickas reached on a fielder's choice that was the second out of the inning before Schlosbon hit an infield single. George then followed with a three-run homer to left field, her team-leading fifth home run of the season and the 11th of her career.

DeSales finished off the scoring with a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Freshman Amanda Carisone won her tenth straight decision in the circle, improving to 10-1 on the season, as she allowed three runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out two batters.

The Greyhounds, now 18-4 on the season, are scheduled to return to action on Thursday, April 16 in a non-conference doubleheader versus Ramapo College of New Jersey with first pitch scheduled for 3:00 p.m. at Blue & Grey Field in Bethlehem. The twinbill starts a 10-game homestand for Moravian.
