Women's Basketball 2nd in Nation in Blocked Shots

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. --- The Moravian College women's basketball team is ranked second in the nation in blocked shots per game at 7.9 blocks per contest in the latest NCAA Division III statistics for games through December 15.

The Greyhounds have recorded 71 blocked shots, the second best total in the country, in the first nine games of the season including a school-record 22 blocks versus Centenary College on December 9. Moravian has had at least three blocked shots in each game this season, and the squad has had eight or more blocks four times.

"It is nice to be recognized as one of the top shot blocking teams in the country," stated Head Coach Mary Beth Spirk. "Shot blocking is about timing and reaction on the defensive end, and hopefully we can continue to defend well and keep our opponents off the scoreboard."

Junior forward Alexis Wright is tied for 13th in the nation individually at 3.0 blocks per contest with a team high 24 blocks in eight games.

The Greyhounds, who have won eight straight, are allowing just 63.4 points per game while forcing 176 turnovers this season. Moravian will put its 8-1 record on the line on Tuesday, December 17 in the squad's final game before the semester break as the Greyhounds travel to No. 11 Montclair State University at 6:00 p.m.
