Greyhounds Sweep Bryn Athyn in Non-Conference Match in Johnston Hall

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's volleyball team swept visiting Bryn Athyn College, 3-0, in non-conference action Tuesday evening in Johnston Hall. 

How It Happened

  • The opening set saw the Greyhounds out to a 4-2 lead, but Moravian was never able to pull ahead by more than four points. The Lions would fight back and take a 16-15 lead. With the Blue and Grey leading, 19-18, junior setter Natalia Matos stepped to the service line and had a pair of service aces as Moravian pulled ahead 23-18 before winning the set 25-20
  • Bryn Athyn had an early 2-0 lead in the second set, and with the Greyhounds leading 4-3, sophomore defensive specialist Kat DeYesso served up seven straight points with two service aces to push the lead to 11-3. Freshman right side hitter Makenzie Krasley added six straight service points as the Hounds took the second set 25-9
  • The Lions jumped out to a 4-0 advantage in the third set, and Bryn Athyn was leading 5-4 when sophomore defensive specialist Emily Szy went to serve. She recorded four straight aces and nine straight points to make it a 12-5 Moravian lead. Krasley added three more points at the service line while senior outside hitter Kirah Dreisbach served the final five points including two service aces to finish the match as the Greyhounds won the set 25-11 to complete the sweep

Inside the Numbers

  • Dreisbach led Moravian with seven kills to go with five digs and four service aces
  • Sophomore right side hitter Sophie Bauer and Krasley each recorded five kills with Bauer adding two blocks
  • Senior outside hitter Sela Herber added four kills while freshmen middle blockers Kerry Dillon and Jenna Deegan both had three kills with Dillon recording three blocks
  • Matos finished the night with 15 assists, five digs and two service aces while freshman setter Emily Solomon had 11 assists and a pair of service aces
  • Szy had a team high seven digs to go with four service aces while DeYesso had three digs and two service aces
  • Sophomore middle blocker Grace Silfani had two blocks while junior libero Gabby Mancini added a pair of digs
