Polgar, Aussenheimer named to LVSCB Scholar-Athlete Team

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Senior Karine Polgar and sophomore Jack Aussenheimer of the Moravian College basketball teams have been named to the Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball Scholar-Athlete Team at the organization's second luncheon of the 2015-16 season at DeSales University in on Tuesday afternoon.

The Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball Organization is made up of the six small college schools in the Lehigh Valley including NCAA Division II schools East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania and Kutztown University of Pennsylvania and NCAA Division III schools Cedar Crest College, DeSales University, Moravian College and Muhlenberg College.

Polgar, a senior guard for the Greyhounds, has helped the Moravian women open the year with a 12-2 overall record and a perfect 5-0 mark in Landmark Conference action. Polgar is averaging 6.1 points per game in 18.3 minutes per contest, while recording 40 rebounds, 20 assists, 14 steals and 13 blocks. Polgar is maintaining a 3.64 GPA while majoring in Mathematics.

"Karine has a very interesting story with us. She played her first two years with us and took a year off and has decided to come back for her season year," commented Head Coach Mary Beth Spirk. "I think that this is very tough for a lot of student-athletes to do and want to finish what she has started. She has been nothing but a great part of this team and is also a great student and has given nothing but 100% all year in both the classroom as well as on the court. She provides us with a lot of energy off of the bench and is very passionate about playing basketball as well as giving back to the community."

Joining Polgar on the Scholar-Athlete Team were Maggie Zerbe of Muhlenberg, Jen Napolitano of DeSales, Rebecca Rutkowski of East Stroudsburg, Kayleigh Keggan of Cedar Crest College and Jenna Altomare of Kutztown.

Aussenheimer, a sophomore guard, has been an integral part of the Greyhounds' this season. He has seen action in five games and has contributed nine points, one rebound, two assists and one steal in 17 minutes of action. Aussenheimer is majoring in Business and minoring in Accounting at Moravian while earning a 3.58 GPA.

"Jack has been a pleasure to coach, he is one of those guys that comes into practice everyday ready to work and makes coaching pleasurable," stated Head Coach Justin Potts '00.  "Jack is a great team guy and has really bought into the system we have brought in and I am really looking forward to coaching him for the next couple of years. Jack is a great help to all of the freshmen and has really taken up a leadership role with them. His hardwork and positive attitude contributes to his success in the classroom and we couldn't ask for a better student-athlete."

Joining Aussenheimer on the Scholar-Athlete Team were Brandon LaRose of Muhlenberg, Brian Laird of DeSales, Will Brown of East Stroudsburg, Martin Dietrich of Kutztown.

The next Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball Luncheon is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 18 at 11:30 a.m., where the LVSCB 2015 Team and the Pete Nevins Player of the Year awards will be announced.
