Hounds Fall to No. 17 Susquehanna in First Action of 2016

SELINSGROVE, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's basketball team returned to action Saturday afternoon after a 21-day layoff as the Greyhounds fell to No. 17 Susquehanna University, 89-64, in Landmark Conference action in Selinsgrove.

Junior forward Brandon McGuire led the Hounds with 14 points to go with eight rebounds and a pair of steals while freshman guard Jimmy Murray netted 13 points to go along with three steals. Freshman forward Oneil Holder also scored in double figures with 10 points, and he added three rebounds and three steals for Moravian, which was playing for the first time since December 11.

Junior guard Sean Hanna had seven points, three boards, two assists and a pair of steals while freshman forward Sebastien Jasmin added five points and three boards. Freshman forward Jake McGee tossed in four points while junior guard Tom Cicalese and sophomore guards Matt Cardonne and Christopher Germano each made a three-pointer in the contest. Senior forward Bobby Zimmermann added three rebounds and two steals for the Hounds, who are now 5-5 on the season and 1-2 in Landmark Conference action.

Holder scored off of the opening tip to give Moravian a quick 2-0 lead while junior guard Isaiah Jennings had the Hounds up 4-2 in the first minute of action. The Crusaders answered with an 18-4 run to build a 20-8 lead. Susquehanna led by as many as 27 points in the first half and had a 53-32 lead at the break after Cicalese's three-pointer with just five seconds left in the opening 20 minutes.

In the second half, Moravian would get within 68-51 with 9:32 to play as Murray connected on a trio of free throws. The Greyhounds' defense did force Susquehanna into 19 turnovers in the game.

Moravian will return to action on Tuesday, January 5 when the squad heads to the United States Merchant Marine Academy for a Landmark Conference game tipping off at 7:00 p.m.
