Hounds Drop Landmark Conference Contest at USMMA

KING'S POINT, N.Y. --- The Moravian College men's basketball team dropped an 87-68 decision at The United States Merchant Marine Academy in Landmark Conference action Tuesday evening as the Hounds were unable to rally back against the hot-shooting Mariners.

Freshman forward Oneil Holder led a trio of Greyhounds in double figures with 19 points, and he added four rebounds, a pair of steals and two blocked shots. Freshman guard Jimmy Murray tossed in 16 points with a pair of assists while junior forward Brandon McGuire contributed 13 points and a team-high nine rebounds.

Junior guard Sean Hanna and freshman forward Jake McGee each added six points and three rebounds for Moravian while freshman guard Will Brazukas had four points. Sophomore guard Khalil Rhett grabbed three boards for the Hounds and added two points.

The two squads traded points through the opening minutes of action with Moravian knotting the score at 8-8 on a lay-up by Hanna just over three minutes into the game. USMMA went on a 5-0 run to take a lead that it wouldn't relinquish. Merchant Marine connected on 17-of-31 field goal attempts including 5-of-10 on three-pointers in the opening 20 minutes to build a 52-30 halftime lead. USMMA shot 51.9 percent from the floor for the entire game and was 7-for-14 beyond the arc.

Moravian did force the Mariners into 19 turnovers in the game, the ninth time in 11 games this season that the Greyhounds have forced their opponent into more turnovers as the Hounds transition to an up-tempo, full-court style of play under first-year Head Coach Justin Potts.

The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Thursday, January 7 when the squad hosts Drew University in Landmark Conference action with tip-off slated for 7:00 p.m. in Johnston Hall.
