TOWSON, Md. --- The Landmark Conference has named 47 student-athletes including four from Moravian College to the 2015-16 Winter All-Sportsmanship Team. The All-Sportsmanship Team includes one student-athlete from each institution for each sport and is selected by the players and coaches from their respective team.

The All-Sportsmanship Team recognizes student-athletes who epitomize the ideals of sportsmanship. The student-athletes selected demonstrate fair play, graciousness in victory and respectfulness in defeat. They are ambassadors for the team, both on and off the field, and galvanize their teammates toward their goals. These student-athletes exhibit respect for themselves, teammates, coaches, opponents, officials, spectators, and the greater campus community.

Of the 47 student-athletes on the All-Sportsmanship Team, eight student-athletes are repeat selections, and were described as leaders and difference-makers on their teams.

The All-Sportsmanship Team was created by the Landmark Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) in 2013 as a way to highlight student-athletes who are making an impact. The Landmark previously awarded a Sportsmanship Cup before the All-Sportsmanship Team replaced the Cup for the 2013-14 academic year.

Men's Basketball 

Sophomore guard Matt Cardonne helped the men's basketball team to a six-game improvement this winter as the squad posted an 11-14 record and won four of its last five games. Cardonne played in all 25 games with seven starts, and he averaged 16.1 minutes per game. Cardonne scored 7.2 points per contest and was second on the squad in three-pointers at 46-of-116 (39.7 percent). He also had 30 rebounds, 19 assists and 14 steals this winter.

"Matt did a great job for us all year long," commented first-year Head Coach Justin Potts. "He is a great representative of our program on a daily basis. He competes the right way and treats the game and his opponent with respect."

Women's Basketball

Senior guard Samantha Caligiuri was the starting point guard for the women's basketball team that finished with a 20-8 record, the program's 18th 20-win season. The Greyhounds also reached the Landmark Conference Semifinals and played in the NCAA Division III Tournament for the 10th time, upsetting No. 15 and host The University of New England in the First Round before falling to No. 7 Tufts in the Second Round. Caligiuri started 27 of 28 games and averaged 25.5 minutes per game. She had a team-high 73 assists against just 47 turnovers, and Caligiuri added 37 steals and 49 rebounds while scoring 5.4 points per contest.

"Sam played the game like it should be played...consistent effort every practice and game," stated Head Coach Mary Beth Spirk. "She was well respected by her teammates and coaches, as well as her opponents. Sam's attitude was positive every day. This recognition embodies the character Sam displayed since she stepped foot on our campus. We are all extremely fortunate that Sam joined us here at Moravian, leading us this year to a 20-win season and a NCAA tournament victory."

Track & Field

Freshman sprinter/hurdler Woodrow Battle had an impact for the Greyhounds as they won their seventh straight Landmark Conference Indoor Championship on the men's side. He finished sixth in the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 9.79 seconds at the Landmark meet to earn a point for the Greyhounds, who won the title by 10 points.

"Woodrow is one of the most polite, upbeat, and personable athletes we've had on our team since I've been here," said Head Coach Jesse Baumann. "He's extremely supportive of other teammates and opponents, wishing them luck prior to the race, and congratulating them afterwards. He is extremely selfless and a tremendous all around person. There isn't a coach in the country who wouldn't love to have someone like Woodrow on his team."

Junior mutli-event athlete Rebecca Flitcroft helped the Greyhound women capture their ninth straight Landmark Conference Indoor title. She placed second in the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 9.77 seconds at the Landmark Championships to garner eight points for the Hounds.

"Becky has a very contagious personality," noted Baumann. "She is extroverted and very positive which translates to the people she's around. She's very supportive of both her teammates and opponents, and always looks for the good in others or in a situation. She has a great energy to her, and is a great representative of our school and program."
