BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's basketball team is scheduled to open the 2015-16 season in Johnston Hall with a non-conference game versus Centenary (N.J.) College on Wednesday, November 18 at 7:00 p.m.
This season, the Greyhounds are under the leadership of new Head Coach Justin Potts '00, who returned to Moravian after being an assistant coach at Division II East Stroudsburg University. This year's squad returns three of its starters from last season, as well as six other players all who have seen playing time.
"It's an exciting time for us with Coach Walker leaving and for me to come back and lead the program even thought it is going to be a change of style and a change in leadership," stated Potts. "The team has had a great preseason and did a great job getting in shape for a running, pressing style that we are going to be playing. We are really looking forward to getting it started on Wednesday versus Centenary."
The Blue and Grey's returning leading scorer is junior forward Brandon McGuire. Last season, McGuire played in all 25 games while recording 377 points, 217 rebounds, 18 steals, 16 blocks and 13 assists. In his career, he has tallied 446 points, 279 rebounds, 26 steals, 21 blocks and 18 assists.
Junior guard Sean Hanna averaged 22 minutes of play in 24 games last year for the Hounds. Hanna knocked down 154 points for the team and dished out 44 assists to go with 32 rebounds 25 steals and three blocks. He has played 45 games in his career with 186 points, 102 rebounds, 101 assists, 57 steals and 13 blocks.
Junior guard Isaiah Jennings started in 23 games last year for the Hounds while seeing action in all 25 games. Jennings knocked down 118 points, 66 assists, 56 rebounds 32 steals and seven blocks in the 2014-15 season. He has played in 50 games in his career and has recorded 186 points, 102 rebounds, 101 assists, 57 steals and 13 blocks.
The team will be looking to the likes of sophomore guards Matt Cardonne and Khalil Rhett to really step up and play this year having some experience at the college level. Cardonne played in 21 games last season for the Greyhounds, and he scored 58 points, which mostly came from beyond the three-point arc while Rhett played in 21and added 41 points, 24 rebounds and eight assists.
Coming from the bench for the Hounds will be sophomore guard Jack Aussenheimer, who scored 53 points in 19 games in the 2014-15 season, junior guard Tom Cicalese, sophomore guard Christopher Germano and senior forward Bobby Zimmermann.
The team has also added some new faces including freshman guard Will Brazukas, freshman forward Oneil Holder, freshman guard Jimmy Murray, freshman guard Nicholas Casazza, freshman guard Jake McGee, and freshman forward Sebastien Jasmin.
"We are obviously going to be young but I think that's really good because we can grow during the year and we will be trying to peak at the right time. As long as we can get everyone on the right page with the style of play we are going to have a really exciting and energetic season," said Potts.
After opening the season versus Centenary the Greyhounds will take to the road for the next five games. They will return back to Johnston Hall on Wednesday, December 2 to take on Landmark Conference opponent Goucher College at 7:00 p.m. to begin the Landmark Conference schedule.
