Four Hounds Score in Double Figures in Overtime Loss at Goucher

TOWSON, Md. --- The Moravian College men's basketball team had four players score in double figures, and the Greyhounds rallied from a seven-point halftime deficit to force overtime before falling to host Goucher College, 95-88, in Landmark Conference action Wednesday evening in Towson, Maryland.

Junior forward Brandon McGuire paced the Hounds with his fourth double-double of the season and the 13th of his career with 18 points and 10 rebounds, and he also had two assists and a pair of blocked shots. Freshmen guard Jimmy Murray and forward Oneil Holder each tossed in 17 points with Holder contributing eight rebounds and three blocked shots while Murray dished out three assists. Junior guard Sean Hanna had 14 points and three boards while tying his career-high with six assists.

Sophomore guard Matt Cardonne tossed in nine points on a trio of three-pointers while freshman guard Will Brazukas added six points and a pair of steals. Junior guard Isaiah Jennings contributed five points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals for Moravian.

The Gophers had the opening points of the game but the Greyhounds would take a 9-8 lead on a three-pointer by Hanna nearly four minutes into action, and Hanna also had Moravian up 12-10 with another shot from beyond the arc. Goucher pulled ahead and would lead until Murray connected on a three-pointer to tie the score at 33-33 with 4:01 until halftime. The Gophers outscored the Blue and Grey 9-2 over the rest of the first half and headed to the locker room with a 42-35 advantage.

Goucher hit a three-pointer to start the scoring in the second half and push the lead to double figures at 45-35, and the Gophers had a 58-47 advantage with 14:48 left in regulation. A jumper from Murray and a three-pointer by Cardonne cut the Hounds' deficit to 58-52, and a three-pointer from Holder midway through the half cut the Gophers' lead to just two points, 62-60.

Holder connected on a pair of free throws to tie the game at 66-66 with 8:25 to go, and McGuire tied the score again at 68-68 two minutes later. Moravian would retake the lead at 71-70 on a three-pointer by Cardonne with five minutes left in the second half. The teams traded the lead before Hanna put the Blue and Grey up 78-75 with just 44 ticks left on the clock. The Gophers connected on a three-pointer to force overtime.

Goucher scored the opening two points of overtime at the foul line, and the Gophers led the entire five minutes of the extra session.

Moravian's pressure defense forced Goucher into 20 turnovers for the game but the Gophers shot over 55 percent from the floor including 4-for-5 in the overtime.

The Greyhounds will return to action on Sunday, January 17 when the squad hosts John Jay College in a non-conference game tipping off at 2:00 p.m. in Johnston Hall.
