Shaneberger Selected as Landmark Conference Softball Senior Scholar-Athlete

Maddison Shaneberger named Landmark Conference Softball Senior Scholar-Athlete.

TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian College senior third baseman Madison Shaneberger has been selected as the 2019 Landmark Conference Senior Scholar-Athlete for Softball.

The Landmark Conference selects 22 senior scholar athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics. The honorees must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors, senior woman administrators and sports information directors. Chosen at the conclusion of each sport season, the 10 spring honorees are being announced this week.

Shaneberger helped the softball program to a 141-27 record during her four seasons including a 44-4 mark in the Landmark Conference regular season as the Greyhounds reached the postseason each spring, winning the Landmark Conference title in 2018 and 2016 and the NCAA Ewing, New Jersey Regional in 2018. Shaneberger was a three-time Landmark All-Conference honoree, making the First Team in 2019 and 2018 and the Second Team in 2016.

Shaneberger played in 161 of a possible 168 games in her career, going 119-for-410 at the plate for a .290 career average. She added 87 runs, 75 RBIs, 27 doubles, one triple, 10 home runs, 59 walks, two stolen bases, four sacrifice flies, 18 sacrifice bunts, a .383 on-base percentage and a .434 slugging percentage. Shaneberger also had 417 chances in the field with 120 putouts and 260 assists in her career.

Off the field, Shaneberger had a 3.83 GPA while majoring in accounting with minors in finance and business law. She is a three-time member of the Landmark Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll. Shaneberger was also on Moravian's Dean's List in all eight semesters, and she was part of the Greyhounds' Chi Alpha Sigma National Athlete Honor Society in both 2018 and 2019. Shaneberger served as the income fund manager for Moravian's Investment Club, and she was also the public relations manager for the Accounting Club.

"Maddy was a four-year standout for us both in the classroom and on the field," commented Head Coach John Byrne. "She accumulated many academic and athletic accolades over her career making her the complete student-athlete. I am very proud to have had Maddy as part of our program these past four years."

Shaneberger is Moravian's 29th Landmark Conference Senior Scholar-Athlete since the conference began in 2007-08, and she is the fourth softball student-athlete to be honored.
