Spilman & Steinert Garner Lehigh Valley Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women Honors

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. --- Moravian College senior Kat Spilman was recognized as Moravian's Outstanding Athlete while junior Lauren Steinert was named the Most Outstanding Women's Tennis Athlete at the annual Lehigh Valley Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women annual awards luncheon at DeSales University on Wednesday.

The LVAIAW is made up of seven schools, Cedar Crest College, DeSales University, Lafayette College, Lehigh University, Kutztown University of Pennsylvania, Moravian and Muhlenberg College. For more information on the LVAIAW, visit http://www.lvaiaw.org/.

Steinert, who received her honor later in the day with Moravian playing in the Landmark Conference Semifinals Wednesday, was recognized as the LVAIAW Outstanding Athlete for women's tennis as she has been a key part of helping the Greyhounds to an 18-1 record this season after a 5-1 win over Goucher College in the Landmark Semifinals. Moravian is the top seed in the tournament after a 7-0 mark in Landmark Conference action during the regular season. Steinert is currently 18-0 in singles action for the Greyhounds this season including an 11-0 mark in the fourth spot, and her 18 wins are tied for the third most in a single season in school history. Steinert has also posted a 15-4 mark in doubles action including 10-3 at second doubles with sophomore Mary Angle.

Spilman was selected as Moravian's LVAIAW Outstanding Athlete. She has helped No. 10 Moravian to a 31-5 record this season that included an 11-1 mark in Landmark Conference action that has the squad as the top seed for the 2019 Landmark Conference Tournament at Blue & Grey Field on May 3-4. This spring, Spilman is hitting .374 with 46 hits, 38 runs, 31 RBIs, six doubles, a triple and four home runs. Spilman ranks fourth in school history with 203 hits to go along with 139 hits, 126 RBIs, 25 doubles, 24 home runs and six triples in her career. She was the 2018 Landmark Conference Co-Player of the Year and the 2016 Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year. Spilman was honored on the 2018 National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III All-Atlantic Region Second Team, and she is a three-time Landmark All-Conference honoree, making the First Team in 2018 and the Second Team in 2016 and 2017.
