Top 10 Exciting Games of 2018-19 - #1 Baseball Walks Off on Markowski Home Run to Begin Landmark Conference Championships.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian College is continuing its look back at its 2018-19 athletic campaign. The final event in the Top 10 Exciting Games from the past year is our No. 1 highlight – the baseball team walking off with a 1-0, 10-inning win over The Catholic University of America in the opening round of the 2019 Landmark Conference Championships on a solo home run by senior Austin Markowski.

The Greyhounds, who were 22-21-1 on the season, earned the second seed in the Landmark Conference Championships hosted by The University of Scranton by going 12-6 during the conference regular season. Despite being swept by Catholic in the regular season, the Hounds were the higher seed at the end of the year which ended up being key in the opening round at Scranton. Moravian would go 6-4 in one-run games during the 2019 campaign.

On Friday, May 10 under the lights of Volpe Field in Scranton, Moravian and Catholic began their contest at 7:00 p.m. as the second game of the day. The contest was a pitcher's duel through the regulation nine innings with each team collecting just three hits and combining for 21 strikeouts. Senior Rhett Jacoby started on the mound of the Blue and Grey and had his best outing of the season as he scattered three hits and a walk to go with 11 strikeouts. Jacoby went nine innings despite a 20-minute rain delay while the Greyhounds were batting in the bottom of the seventh that had him on the bench for over half an hour. Senior Tyler Caraway headed to the mound in the top of the tenth and struck out three of the four batters he faced to keep the contest scoreless.

The Hounds, who had just a pair of singles from senior left fielder Mike Mittl and a single from sophomore shortstop Michael Miceli in the first nine innings, had the heart of the line-up due up in the tenth. Senior first baseman Evan Kulig flew out to start the frame before Markowski came to the plate. On a 1-1 pitch, Markowski drove the ball into the darkness of the parking lot beyond the left field fence setting off a celebration at home plate for the Greyhounds' fourth walkoff win of the season.

After the victory over Catholic, Moravian would go on to reach the championship round before falling to Susquehanna University to end the year.
