Top 10 Games of 2018-19 - No. 9 Softball Rallies at Scranton to Clinch Postseason Berth

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian College is continuing its look back at its 2018-19 athletic campaign. The next event in the Top 10 Exciting Games from the past year is our No. 9 highlight – the softball team scoring four runs in the seventh inning to rally and defeat The University of Scranton, 4-3, in the second game of a doubleheader.

The Greyhounds, who completed the 2019 campaign at 32-7 overall, played a total of five one-run games this past spring, winning four of them. The squad also went 11-1 in the Landmark Conference regular season to earn the top seed in the 2019 Landmark Conference Championships at Blue & Grey Field.

On Sunday, April 7, the Hounds traveled to Scranton for a Landmark Conference doubleheader as the squad had the chance to clinch the program's 25th consecutive postseason appearance under the direction of 26-year Head Coach John Byrne. The Greyhounds were ranked No. 14 in the nation at the time of the doubleheader and won the opener, 5-1, to extend their winning streak to 17 games.

In the second game, Moravian trailed, 1-0, heading to the seventh inning. Junior first baseman Lauren Goetz led off the top of the seventh with a solo home run to knot the score at 1-1. The Greyhounds loaded the bases later in the frame before freshman designated player Alexandria Scheeler ripped a three-RBI double for a 4-1 advantage.

In the bottom of the seventh with Moravian holding a 4-3 lead, sophomore pitcher Meghan Bauer came into the circle to get the final three outs and her first career save as the Greyhounds clinched their postseason berth.
