Ten Greyhounds Selected to 2024 Landmark Softball All-Conference Teams; Baltz Honored as Co-Coach of the Year

TOWSON, Md. --- The Moravian University softball team has had ten student-athletes selected to the 2024 Landmark All-Conference Teams with Head Coach Josh Baltz and his assistants selected as the Co-Coaching Staff of the Year.

Five of the ten Hounds to garner All-Conference accolades were named to the First Team including junior first baseman Lindsey Gawrys, senior shortstop Ajala Elmore, junior outfielder Sage Snyder, sophomore catcher Marcie Silberman and senior designated player Emily Silberman. Senior pitcher Madi Cunningham, sophomore pitcher Natalie Otto, sophomore outfielder Sarah DeStefano and freshman outfielder Shayla Morgan were selected to the All-Conference Second Team while sophomore third baseman Sydney Andrews earned a spot on the Landmark All-Conference Honorable Mention squad.

“What a great honor for our 10 players that received All-Conference recognition,” commented Baltz. “It is very rewarding and fulfilling for each player. They all work extremely hard in order to be the best player, and their dedication to the Moravian Softball program allows them to excel on the field! I am grateful to have such talented and committed players that lead the way for Moravian Softball.”

The Greyhounds are 27-8 this season including a 13-3 mark to earn the top seed and right to host the 2024 Landmark Conference Tournament at Blue & Grey Field May 10-12.

In his two seasons, Baltz has guided the Hounds to a 65-20 record and two appearances in the Landmark Conference Tournament as the top seed as well as the 2023 Landmark Conference championship, the Medford (Mass.) Regional title, the Cambridge (Mass.) Super Regional championship and a berth in the 2023 NCAA Division III Championship Finals.

"He and his staff work tirelessly on and off the field to produce not only quality softball players, but also excellent students, personable young adults and a winning team. They represent Moravian well and we are excited to see where he and his staff lead them to in the playoffs."
 
Gawrys, who earned her first Landmark postseason honor, is hitting .368 to go with 42 hits, 35 runs, seven doubles, two triples, four homers, 16 walks, 18 RBIs and 220 putouts. Gawrys has recorded 132 hits, 96 runs, 24 doubles, six triples, 11 home runs, 75 RBIs, 51 walks, 777 putouts and a .361 batting average in three seasons.

Elmore, who was a member of the All-Conference Second Team last year as a shortstop, has posted a .444 batting average to go along with 32 hits, 21 runs, four doubles, four homers and 22 RBIs, and she has 45 putouts and 47 assists in the field. In four seasons, Elmore has recorded 113 hits, 77 runs, 16 doubles, four triples, nine homers, 72 RBIs, a .326 average, 198 putouts and 230 assists.

Snyder, who was a member of the 2023 All-Conference First Team, has a .369 average to go with 38 hits, 34 runs, eight doubles, a triple, four homers, 12 walks, 16 stolen bases and 20 RBIs. Snyder has posted 84 hits, 72 runs, 15 doubles, three triples, seven home runs, 50 RBIs, 35 walks, 31 stolen bases and a .340 average in three seasons.

Marcie Silberman, who repeats as an All-Conference First Team honoree, is hitting .361 with 44 hits, 29 runs, 15 doubles, a school and Landmark Conference record 14 homers and 50 RBIs this season while throwing out eight runners. In her two seasons, Silberman has 84 hits, 47 runs, 23 doubles, a triple, 20 homers and 91 RBIs to go with a .354 average and 11 runners caught stealing.

Emily Silberman, who was on the 2023 Landmark All-Conference First Team and 2021 and 2022 Landmark All-Conference Second Team, is hitting .374 to go along with 34 hits, four runs, four home runs and 30 RBIs. Silberman has 144 hits, 26 runs, seven doubles, 20 homers, 123 RBIs and a .377 average in her career.

Cunningham, who was the 2022 Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year and a member of the All-Conference First Team in 2022 and 2023, is 15-2 in the circle to go with five shutouts, 60 strikeouts and a 1.87 ERA in 101 innings, and she has recorded 10 hits, 11 runs, two doubles, a homer and seven RBIs at the plate. Cunningham is 50-10 in the circle in her career to go with one save, 238 strikeouts and a 2.08 ERA in 396.2 innings of action, and she also has 39 hits, 37 runs, seven doubles, seven homers and 27 RBIs in three seasons.

Otto has posted a 10-3 record this season in the circle to go with 73 strikeouts and a pair of shutouts in 82.1 innings of action. Otto is 12-3 with 84 strikeouts and a 2.08 ERA in 91 innings over her two years with the Hounds.

DeStefano, who was the 2023 Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year and member of the All-Conference Second Team as a pitcher last season, is hitting .449 with 31 hits, nine runs, a double, two triples and 16 RBIs this season, and she has been limited to 22 innings in the circle with a 2-1 record and 15 strikeouts due to an injury. In her two seasons, DeStefano has a .383 average with 74 hits, 29 runs, four doubles, two triples and 35 RBIs, and she is 18-5 in the circle with 99 strikeouts in 153.1 innings of action.

Morgan has recorded a .438 average in her debut season with 21 hits, 19 runs, two RBIs and 19 stolen bases while becoming the starting center fielder for the Blue & Grey.

Andrews has 23 hits, 12 runs, four doubles, a triple, 17 RBIs and 47 assists in the field in her first season at Moravian after playing her freshman campaign at Cabrini University.
