Women's Cross Country Wins Goucher Classic

TOWSON, Md. --- The Moravian College women's cross country team captured first place of 11 teams at the 2014 Goucher College Cross Country Classic Saturday morning.

The Greyhounds scored 32 points to finish 82 points ahead of Landmark Conference foe The Catholic University of America. The race featured five Landmark teams, and the course is the same one that will be used for the 2014 Landmark Championships on November 1.

Moravian placed all nine of its women in the top 22 of the 6,000-meter race that had 77 total competitors. Senior Emily Lambright paced the Hounds with a second place finish in a time of 25:17.63. Senior Devon Bedell was right on Lambright's heels to finish third in 25:20.36, and sophomore Meg Brockett was one spot back in fourth with a time of 25:27.69.

Freshman Jillian Troisi crossed the finish line in 11th place with a time of 26:41.92 while sophomore Sarah Hughes took 12th in 26:43.01 and freshman Meredith Colton was 13th with a time of 26:43.54. Rounding out the Moravian female competitors were freshman Christine Hughes in 18th at 27:22.70, freshman Kirsten Lebo a spot back in 19th with a time of 27:23.04 and sophomore Larissa Strycharz finishing 22nd in 27:37.12.

The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Saturday, October 18 at the Princeton University Invitational in their final tune-up before looking to defend their Landmark Conference title on November 1 back at Goucher.
