Field Hockey Drops Match to William Paterson

Bethlehem, Pa.---The Moravian College field hockey team fell 1-0 to William Paterson University Saturday night in a non-conference match up.

The Greyhounds came out with a strong start with sophomore forward Erin Tiwold taking two back-to-back penalty corners within the first minute of the game. The second penalty corner would lead to a shot by senior midfielder Catherine Duffin that resulted in a save.

In the 14th minute, William Paterson would score off a penalty corner, taking the lead 1-0.  A pair of penalty corners by Tiwold set up Duffin, whose shot went just wide to the left of the goal and junior forward Kelly O'Donnell whose shot was saved by the goalie, both just around the 20-minute mark of the game.

In the second half, O'Donnell was shut out again with another save by the goalie in the 48th minute. Senior midfielder Valerie Male would take her turn but missed just left of the goal in the 54th minute.

Male and Duffin on the attack again, Male in the 59th minute and Duffin in the 60th both resulted in defensive saves by William Paterson. The Greyhounds would make three more attacking attempts on penalty corners but would the match would end 1-0.

Sophomore goalkeeper Megan Kanyuk recorded three saves on the night.

The Blue and Grey return home on Monday, September 15 for a non-conference match against Cabrini College for a 4:00 p.m. start on Rocco Calvo Field
