Hounds Drop Landmark Match at Elizabethtown

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- The Moravian College field hockey team dropped its final Landmark Conference road game of the season in a 5-1 setback at conference newcomer Elizabethtown College Sunday in a make-up of a contest that was postponed due to weather earlier this month.

The Blue Jays started quickly with a pair of shots on goal in the first three minutes that were knocked away by sophomore goalie Megan Kanyuk. Kanyuk finished with six saves in the match. Elizabethtown would take a 1-0 lead in the fourth minute.

The Greyhounds looked to counter with senior midfielder Catherine Duffin putting a shot on goal in the sixth minute. Junior midfielder Ely Vazquez put another shot on the keeper for the Greyhounds in the ninth minute before Duffin nearly scored a minute later.

Elizabethtown extended its lead to 2-0 in the 32nd minute but the Hounds would answer just 36 seconds before halftime to cut the deficit back to one goal. On the Greyhounds second straight penalty corner, sophomore forward Kyla Rodrigues inserted the ball, and it eventually ended up on sophomore midfielder/forward Christina Duddy's stick. Duddy fired the ball across the circle to the back post where junior midfielder Rebecca Hamel knocked the ball into the cage for her fourth goal of the season and third marker of the week.

The Blue Jays came out after the intermission and scored three goals in the first 15 minutes of the half to build a 5-1 lead.

Duffin put her third shot on goal of the contest in the 57th minute on a penalty corner started by sophomore forward Erin Tiwold.

The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Wednesday, October 29 when they head to Allentown for a Matte Award match at rival Muhlenberg College beginning at 7:30 p.m. at Scotty Wood Stadium.
