Hamel, Duffin Lead Hounds Past Marywood, 7-2

Bethlehem, Pa.--- Junior midfielder/defender Rebecca Hamel and senior midfielder Catherine Duffin led the Moravian College field hockey team to a 7-2 victory on Rocco Calvo Field Thursday afternoon defeating non-conference opponent Marywood University.

"It was a nice game for us heading into a big conference weekend," commented Head Coach Amy Endler. "We got some confidence and players in the game that haven't played a lot which gave our starters some rest. I'm happy with the performance overall and hope it carries over into the weekend against The University of Scranton and Elizabethtown College."

The Greyhounds found the back of the net in the 14th minute, when Hamel tapped in cross from midfielder Duffin on a penalty corner. In the 18th minute, Duffin would record her first goal of the match forcing the goalie off her line, dribbling past her and finding a wide open cage giving the Hounds a 2-0 lead.

Junior forward Kelly O'Donnell found the left side of the cage in the 21st minute for her sixth goal of the season when sophomore Kyla Rodrigues played a ball from the right side of the field. The Blue and Grey led the Pacers 3-0 at halftime.

Moravian came out hot in the second half, wasting little time finding their fourth goal of the match when sophomore Erin Tiwold found an open Duffin in the circle, who used a hard push shot in the 37th minute. That goal earned Duffin her 32nd career goal putting her in third place, and in fourth place with 82 career points in school history.

Marywood earned their first goal of the match in the 40th minute and the second in the 57th minute. The Greyhounds would put their fifth goal in the 42nd minute when multiple shots were taken, the first by Hamel, who ripped a shot that was saved, then Duffin who would try her hand but was saved again by the Pacers keeper. It wasn't until Tiwold followed up with the third shot that allowed the Hounds go up 5-1.

In the 44th minute, the Blue and Grey lined-up for a penalty corner taken by Tiwold. She found an open Duffin who blasted a shot that was saved, but Hamel would follow up and tap in the sixth goal of the match.

A penalty stroke would be awarded for the Greyhounds in the 51st minute, selecting sophomore defender Shauna Poling to take the penalty stroke. Poling settled in and earned the seventh goal of the match and her first of the season.

Sophomore goalkeeper Megan Kanyuk made eight saves on the afternoon.
