Eight Greyhounds Honored by National Field Hockey Coaches Association

GLEN ALLEN, Va. --- Eight student-athletes from the Moravian College field hockey team have been named to the 2016 ZAG Field Hockey/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III National Academic Squad announced by the NFHCA while seniors Kyla Rodrigues and Erin Tiwold were also named ZAG Field Hockey/NFHCA Scholars of Distinction.

Moravian was also one of 124 NCAA Division III schools to earn the honor of being named a ZAG Field Hockey/NFHCA Division III National Academic Team Award winner for having a team GPA of 3.0 or higher. The Greyhounds were joined on the list by six of their Landmark Conference opponents - The Catholic University of America, Drew University, Elizabethtown College, Goucher College, Juniata College, The University of Scranton and Susquehanna University.

Rodrigues and Tiwold were joined by senior Christina Duddy, sophomore Emily Duddy and freshmen Devyn Lapp, Ashley Magee, Olivia Schlofer and Haley Wrazien as the Greyhounds named to the National Academic Squad, which includes 1,604 student-athletes from 148 schools. To be named to the NFHCA National Academic Squad, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.30 grade-point average through the first semester of the 2016-17 academic year. Rodrigues, Tiwold and C. Duddy are four-year recipients of the honor, three of 185 seniors to earn the honor for four straight years.

Rodrigues also earned Scholar of Distinction honors for the fourth consecutive year while Tiwold was honored for the second time after being on the list as a freshman. The Scholar of Distinction is given to student-athletes that have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.90 or higher through the first semester of the 2016-17 academic year. This year, there are 208 student-athletes that earned Scholar of Distinction from 103 schools.

Tiwold scored two goals and an assist this past fall for the Greyhounds while Schlofer scored once and Rodrigues had an assist. E. Duddy added one defensive save.
