BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's golf team began its 2019-20 season by hosting and also winning the Moravian Weyhill Classic on the Weyhill Course of Saucon Valley Country Club Monday afternoon.

The Greyhounds fired a four-man team score of 301, finishing six strokes ahead of both Gettysburg College and Penn State-Berks, taking the top spot among the nine competing teams. The Hounds had five of their six players in the tournament shoot sub 80 rounds and finish in the top 20 of the 46 golfers. Justin Panner from DeSales University scored a hole in one on the second hole during the round.

Freshman Andrew Hozza made a strong collegiate debut for the Blue and Grey as he carded a one-over par round of 73 on the par 72 Weyhill Course. Hozza's round, which included two birdies and 14 pars, was tied for the low round of the day but finished second overall on a comparison of the back-nine scores with Nicholas Campanelli from The University of Scranton shooting a 34 over the final nine holes while Hozza had a 36.

Sophomore Will Breslin finished third overall for Moravian with a career low round of 74, eight strokes better than his best collegiate round last season. Breslin had one birdie and 14 pars in his round while senior Nick Kuhn and junior Thomas Lakata each had round of 77 and tied for seventh. Kuhn carded three birdies and eight pars while Lakata had one birdie and 12 pars. Junior Victor Tavares played as an individual and tied for 19th with a round of 79 that included two birdies and seven pars while junior Kody Kolnik had a 90 with four pars.

"This was a great way to start the fall season," commented Head Coach Kevin Edwards. "The guys really played solid especially Andrew and Will. Nick and Thomas both didn't play great on the front nine but both played a really solid back nine to finish."

Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Tuesday, October 1 when the squad returns to the Weyhill Course at Saucon Valley to host the annual John Makuvek Cup with DeSales and rival Muhlenberg College.
