BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian College hosted its fourth annual Heritage Day on Wednesday, September 18 as the College held a celebration of Moravian tradition, community and service.
The day began in Johnston Hall with a convocation led by President Bryon L. Grigsby '90. Afterwards the members of Moravian's student body, faculty and staff worked on service projects in Johnston Hall and Timothy Breidegam Fieldhouse of making candles for use during Moravian's Vesper services in December and blankets that are being distributed around the Lehigh Valley to hospice and cancer patients, homeless shelters, Turning Point, Valley Youth House and other organizations.
"Heritage Day is truly a humbling experience," noted senior women's basketball player Karlie Brogan. "It is a great opportunity for us to give back to the community and reflect on how privileged we are."
The day included performances by the Moravian College Choir and Moravian College Marching Band, a love feast, a reflection on the day's work and a community photo on John Makuvek Field.
"This was a great opportunity for our student athletes to have an impact in the community," stated Head Women's Lacrosse Coach Kristen Nicholson. "We're fortunate to have campus leaders that allow our students to take part in something bigger than ourselves and dedicate a day to giving back."
With over 1,300 members of the Moravian community taking part in the including a majority of the 430 Greyhound student-athletes, the College had another successful Heritage Day.
