NEW ORLEANS, La. --- Moravian College has had a pair of individuals named United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic individuals and both the men's and women's track & field squads honored as All-Academic Teams by the USTFCCCA for the 2019 season.
Moravian's selections were junior Carly Danoski from the women's team and senior John Spirk from the men's squad. Danoski is studying environmental science while Spirk graduated with a degree in computer science.
To earn All-Academic individual honors, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30 and have competed in the either the 2019 NCAA Indoor or Outdoor National Championships or have finished the regular season ranked in the national top-50 in an individual event or ranked in the national top-35 in a relay event on the official NCAA Descending Order List. That group total 631 women and 462 men including the two Greyhounds.
Danoski finished 13th in the 800-meter run at the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships in Boston this past March before taking 18th in the same race the NCAA Outdoor meet in Ohio in May. Danoski also earned USTFCCCA All-Mid-Atlantic Region honors in the event both indoors and outdoors, and she was the 2019 Landmark Conference Champion indoors in the 800-meter and mile run and outdoors in the 800-meter and 1,500-meter runs.
Spirk took 16th in the 400-meter hurdles at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in his first trip to the national meet. He was selected to the USTFCCCA All-Mid-Atlantic Region outdoors in the 110-meter and 400-meter hurdles and indoors in the 60-meter hurdles. Spirk was also named the Landmark Conference Men's Track Athlete of the Year both indoors and outdoors as he captured the 60-meter hurdles and 400-meter dash indoors and the 110-meter high hurdles, 400-meter hurdles and 400-meter dash outdoors. Spirk was also honored as the Landmark Conference Men's Indoor Track & Field Senior Scholar-Athlete.
The women's team also maintained a 3.61 cumulative GPA after the fall semester and was one of 184 women's teams to earn All-Academic honors while the men's squad had a 3.11 GPA and was one of 113 teams honored. To be considered an All-Academic Team, programs must have a cumulative GPA of 3.10 or greater. Both Greyhounds' teams continued their domination of the Landmark Conference, sweeping the indoor and outdoor championships in 2019 to give the program a total of 45 out of a possible 48 Landmark Conference titles.
