BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian College is continuing its look back at its 2019-20 athletic campaign. The next event in the Top 10 Exciting Games from the past year is our No. 2 highlight – the men's soccer team scoring twice in the final 1:46 while playing down a man to defeat Drew University.
The Greyhounds, who are making their second appearance in the countdown, had an 11-7-1 record, and a 4-3 slate in Landmark Conference action as the squad made the Landmark Conference Tournament for the second straight season. The Blue and Grey won six matches by one goal in 2019.
On October 19, a sunny Homecoming Saturday, Moravian fell behind 1-0 to the visiting Rangers in the 79th minute after just four and a half minutes after going down a man due to a second yellow card becoming a red card.
The Hounds would rally in the 89th minute for the win. With 1:46 on the clock, freshman midfielder Dave Steinbach headed in a chip in from junior forward Ethan Blakely to knot the score at 1-1. Just 38 seconds later, Moravian was awarded a free kick in the corner just down from the Greyhounds' bench. Blakely drove a low ball into the box and connected with sliding senior defender Akinori Mollenthiel, who knocked the ball right side of the goal for his second career game-winning goal.
The Rangers would get one more shot off with a chance to tie the match, but it sailed wide to preserve Moravian's win.
