TEMPE, Ariz. --- Twelve student-athletes from the Moravian College men's and women's tennis teams have been selected as 2019 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar-Athletes and the women's squad was also received the ITA All-Academic Team award.
Seniors Peter Demyan, Austin Grace, Luke Peterson and Isaac Schefer, sophomore Mason Hudnall and freshman Daniel Salimnejad from the men's team and senior Kate Rennar, junior Lauren Steinert, sophomores Brooke Adams, Kristen Cassidy and Destiny George and freshman Hannah Pellicciotti from the women's squad were named ITA Scholar-Athletes with Grace and Rennar earning the honor for a third consecutive year and Schefer, Hudnall, Steinert, Cassidy and George all making it for a second straight year.
For a student-athlete to ITA Scholar-Athlete honors, they must maintain at least a 3.50 GPA, earn a varsity letter and be enrolled for at least two semesters. Thousands of student-athletes across all divisions were honored with ITA Scholar-Athlete status and 940 teams earned the ITA All-Academic Team award for maintaining over at least a 3.20 GPA. All varsity letter winners were factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2018 and spring 2019).
"We are truly excited to have 12 of our student-athletes and our entire women's tennis team named to the ITA All-Academic & Scholar-Athlete Teams," stated Director of Tennis Aaron Wilf. "Our players and their commitment represent the very best of Division III athletics and I'm proud of what they've accomplished not only on the court but off the court as well."
Adams and Steinert each earned spots on the Landmark All-Conference Second Team in singles action with Steinert tying the school record with a 20-0 mark and Adams going 18-1. Steinert also make the All-Conference Second Team in doubles with a 16-6 record this past season. Adams posted a 15-5 overall doubles record including a 9-4 slate with Cassidy and a 3-1 mark with Rennar. Cassidy was 10-0 in singles action while Rennar went 9-0. George had a 3-1 single mark and a 2-2 doubles record while Pellicciotti was 2-1 in singles and 2-2 in doubles. Rennar, Steinert, Adams, Cassidy and George were each selected to the Landmark Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll for student-athletes that are a sophomore, junior and senior with at least a 3.20 GPA.
Demyan, Grace, Peterson and Schefer were named to the Landmark Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll while Demyan was honored on the Landmark All-Conference Second Team in singles after an 11-5 season. Salminejad posted a 13-6 singles record while Schefer was 12-7 in single, and the duo combined for a 9-6 doubles record. Hudnall had a 10-9 mark in singles action and a 9-9 mark in doubles while Grace added two singes wins and a pair of doubles victories and Demyan had three doubles wins.
