BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian College is continuing its look back at its 2019-20 athletic campaign. The next event in the Top 10 Exciting Games from the past year is our No. 3 highlight – the women's soccer squad defeating rival Muhlenberg College, 1-0, on a goal that would make ESPN Sportscenter's Top 10.
The Greyhounds posted a 7-7-1 record last fall, winning five matches by shutout and four by 1-0 scores.
Under the lights of John Makuvek Field on September 11, the Hounds welcomed the rival Mules for a non-conference match. The only marker of the night would come in the 26th minute when junior defender Sara Cassel lined up for a free kick from about 40 yards away near the left sideline by the hill leading up to the Haupert Union Building. Instead of lofting the ball into the box for a teammate, Cassel fired a shot the found the upper right corner of the net for her first goal of the season and the second of her career.
The goal, which can be seen at https://www.moraviansports.com/sports/wsoc/2019-20/videos/IMG_0613?list=/video/index, ended up at No. 5 on ESPN Sportscenter's Top 10 the next day.
Senior Jamie Daly had two saves in the first half and junior Siobhan O'Sullivan-Evangelista recorded three stops in the second half as the duo combined on the shutout victory.
