Top 10 Games Of 2019-20 - #6 Softball Scored Six Times In Ninth For Extra Inning Win Over John Carroll University In Season Opener

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian College is continuing its look back at its 2019-20 athletic campaign. The next event in the Top 10 Exciting Games from the past year is our No. 6 highlight – the softball team scoring six runs in the top of the ninth inning for an 8-3, extra-inning victory over John Carroll (Ohio) University to begin the 2020 season in Florida.

The Greyhounds were 9-1 when the season was first paused, then cancelled due to COVID-19. The squad would finish the year ranked No. 21 in the final National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III Top 25 poll.

On March 1, the Hounds began the year at The Spring Games played at the National Training Center in Clermont, Florida against John Carroll. The Blue Streaks opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning with a run while Moravian knotted the score at 1-1 in the top of third inning on an RBI single by freshman shortstop Alexis Agrapides.

When the contest was still tied after the regulation seven innings, the squads went straight to the international tiebreaker with a runner on second base to start the inning. The Greyhounds had Agrapides score on an RBI sacrifice fly by junior catcher Brooke Wehr to take a 2-1 lead. However, John Carroll plated a run in the bottom of the eighth to force another extra inning.

The Hounds chased six runs home in the top of the ninth to move ahead 8-2. What ended up being the winning run was junior second baseman Shannon Brogan racing home on a sacrifice bunt by sophomore right fielder Victoria Smith.

Sophomore Alexandria Scheeler tossed all nine innings in the circle with two strikeouts and just one earned run allowed for the victory.
