CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Senior forward Nadine Ewald and senior guard C.J. Barnes from the Moravian College basketball teams have been selected to the Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball Team of the Year by the LVSCB Organization at its final luncheon of the 2019-20 season at DeSales University.
The Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball Organization is made up of the six small college schools in the Lehigh Valley including NCAA Division II schools East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania and Kutztown University of Pennsylvania and NCAA Division III schools Cedar Crest College, DeSales University, Moravian College and Muhlenberg College.
Ewald, who was unable to attend the luncheon due to student teahcing, has helped lead the Greyhounds to a 14-9 overall record and a 7-5 Landmark Conference record. This winter, Ewald is averaging a double-double of 15.6 points and 10.5 rebounds per game to go along with 54 assists, 31 steals and 31 blocked shots. Ewald, who has 13 double-doubles this winter and 35 in her career, is 14th in school history with 1,215 points and third all-time with 879 rebounds during her career, and she has added 100 blocked shots in 99 career games.
"This is a tremendous honor for Nadine, who has shown a steady progression from her freshman year until now," stated Moravian Head Coach Mary Beth Spirk. "Nadine has been everything you could ask four on and off the floor for four seasons, and has been an asset to our program during her career. She serves one of our captains, and we wish Nadine the best in her teaching career after graduation."
Joining Ewald on the Team of the Year were Ashley Wilson of Cedar Crest, Averi Jordan of DeSales, Tiffany Lapotsky of East Stroudsburg, Rylee Derr of Kutztown and Margaux Eripret of Muhlenberg. Lapotsky was named the Peter Nevins Women's Player of the Year for the 2019-20 season by the LVSCB Organization.
Barnes is an on-court leader for the Blue and Grey, who are 13-10 overall and 8-4 in Landmark Conference action having clinched a postseason berth already. Barnes is averaging 15.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per contest this winter, and he has also contributed 34 assists, 18 steals, 12 blocked shots and 48 three-pointers. Barnes, who is tied for second in school history with 107 career games played, is 16th all-time with 1,208 points and second in school history with 203 three-pointers.
"C.J. has been a strong leader on and off the court this season that has helped me transition into the position after starting at Moravian in late September," commented first-year Head Coach Shawn Postiglione. "C.J. has been on four teams that have reached the postseason with a couple of conference title so he's had an outstanding career on the court but he is so much more off the court. He's a Dean's List student, and I know he will be successful after his career is over. He's a player that all of our younger student-athletes look up to."
Joining Barnes on the Team of the Year were Timmy Edwards of DeSales, Kitt Najee Walls of East Stroudsburg, Tarojae Brake of Kutztown and Dan Gaines of Muhlenberg. Gaines was named the Peter Nevins Men's Player of the Year for the 2019-20 season by the LVSCB Organization.
