Top 10 Stories of 2018-19 - #5 Six Greyhounds Earn Seven Landmark Conference Athlete of the Year Honors.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian College is continuing its look back at its 2018-19 athletic campaign. The sixth entry in our second countdown of the summer – the Top 10 Stories of the Year selected by the athletic administration – is our No. 5 highlight – six student-athletes earning a total of seven Landmark Conference Athlete of the Year honors.

Last fall, sophomore Natalie Novotni won the 2018 Landmark Conference Women's Cross Country Championship to earn the Landmark Conference Female Runner of the Year honors. Novotni took first of 81 competitors in the 6,000-meter race in a time of 22:58.60, her first career sub 23-minute time.

During the winter season, seniors Anna Osman and John Spirk were selected as the Landmark Conference Female and Male Indoor Track Athletes of the Year after leading the Greyhounds to two more Landmark Conference team titles. Osman competed in eight races and won four events including the 60-meter hurdles and the 400-meter dash. She ran the leadoff leg of both the winning 4x200 and 4x400-meter relays. Spirk captured the 60-meter hurdles for the fourth straight year, and he also won the 400-meter dash title for the second straight year.

Spirk would also capture Landmark Conference Male Track Athlete of the Year honors at the 2019 outdoor championship to help Moravian win its 11th Landmark outdoor title. Spirk won the 110-meter high hurdles and the 400-meter hurdles for the fourth straight spring, and he took first in the 400-meter dash too.

The softball team swept the Landmark Conference major awards including sophomore shortstop Maddisen Bieber being named the Landmark Conference Player of the Year and junior Paige Lesher honored as the Landmark Conference Pitcher of the Year. The duo helped the Greyhounds to a 32-7 record this year including an 11-1 mark in conference action to host the championship playoffs. Bieber finished the season with a .487 batting average to go with 58 hits, 33 runs, 10 doubles, one homer and 19 RBIs while adding 65 putouts and 112 assists in the field. Lesher recorded a 16-1 record in the circle with three shutouts, a 1.56 ERA and 34 strikeouts in 103 innings of action.

Junior Liz Bill was named as the 2019 Landmark Conference Women's Lacrosse Player of the Year after helping the Hounds to a 12-6 record and a berth in the Landmark Conference Semifinals. She scored a school record 87 goals this spring to go with 12 assists for 99 points, and Bill also set a school record with 114 draw controls.
