BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian College is going to take a look back at its 2019-20 athletic campaign over the next 11 weeks with a pair of top 10 lists voted on by the athletic administration. While the spring season was cut short, the Greyhounds plan to honor the performances and stories that did occur during the academic year.
The first list starting today will be the Top 10 Exciting Games from the past year with a look at our No. 10 highlight – the football team scoring 15 points in the fourth quarter to rally from an 11-point deficit for a 32-28 win at Juniata College on October 26.
The victory started a three-game winning streak for the Greyhounds, who won four of five games from week five through week nine of the season.
The Hounds opened the scoring with a one-yard touchdown run by senior Roberto Diez on the first possession of the game for a 7-0 advantage. The Eagles answered back to knot the score at 7-7 before sophomore quarterback Christopher Mills found junior wide receiver Nick Petros with a 25-yard touchdown pass to give Moravian a 14-7 lead after the first quarter.
Juniata scored the only points of the second quarter with two touchdowns to head to the locker room with a 21-14 advantage.
Freshman kicker Trevor Yacuboski pulled the Greyhounds within four points at 21-17 with a 26-yard field with just under 10 minutes left in the third quarter but the Eagles scored another touchdown to hold a 28-17 lead heading to the final quarter.
The Blue and Grey took the ensuing kickoff and ran 6:33 off the clock with Diez scoring again on a one-yard touchdown run with 9:57 to play. The Hounds went for the two-point conversion with Mills finding junior tight end Kevin Brandt to cut the deficit to three points at 28-25.
After Moravian's defense forced Juniata to punt after three plays, the offense came back out with another long drive that took another five minutes off the clock and ended with Diez's third one-yard touchdown run of the afternoon as the Greyhounds took a 32-28 lead with less than three minutes remaining.
The defense forced the Eagles to turn the ball over on downs before Mills kneeled down three times to run out the clock for the victory.
During the game, Diez moved into 15th in school history with 1,379 career rushing yards on 319 carries to go with 13 career touchdowns. Petros had 10 catches for 139 yards with a touchdown against the Eagles as he became the 11th player in school history to pass both 100 career receptions and 1,500 career receiving yards.
