MOOSIC, Pa. --- The Moravian College golf team improved its team score by 12 strokes on the second day of the Glenmaura National Collegiate Invitational hosted by the University of Scranton at Glenmaura National Golf Course Monday as the Greyhounds finished tenth of 12 teams.
Moravian had a two-day score of 690 while the host Royals won the tournament on the second playoff hole after Scranton and McDaniel College finished the 142-hole tournament tied with 622. Ryan Lauedeman won medalist honors with a two-day score of 146, just four-over par for the tournament.
Freshman Jim Maru led the Greyhounds with a total of 167 after an 84 in the second round Monday which placed him 31st of the 60 golfers. Senior Aaron Thieme was tied for 35th with a 170 after shooting a team low score of 80 in the second round. Freshman Evan Dickinson was 41st with a 176 while senior Tyler Thompson was tied for 42nd at 177 and junior Eric Schultz was tied for 46th at 178. Thompson fired an 87 on Monday while Dickinson and Schultz carded rounds of 88.
Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Saturday and Sunday, April 20th and 21st in the third and fourth rounds of the 2012-13 Empire 8 Conference Championships being played at the Hershey Country Club. The Greyhounds were eighth of nine teams after the first two rounds last September with Thieme sitting in 13th place individually.
