Golf Finishes 7th at Empire 8 Championships

HERSHEY, Pa. --- The Moravian College golf team finished seventh of nine schools after the fourth and final round of the 2012-13 Empire 8 Conference Championships was completed Sunday at the Hershey Country Club.

The Greyhounds had a four-round team score of 1,357 while St. John Fisher College captured the conference title at 1,212. Moravian was in eighth place after the first two rounds at the Yahnundasis Country Club, New Hartford, N.Y. on September 15th and 16th. However, the Greyhounds shot 663 for the spring portion of the tournament, which was the third best team score for the spring.

Moravian senior Aaron Thieme had a final round of 85 on Sunday to place 12th of the 44 golfers that played all four rounds with a 72-hole score of 324. Freshman Evan Dickinson had an 81 in the fourth round and finished 22nd overall with a 338 while freshman Jim Maru turned in a team low round of 79 on Sunday for a 72-hole total of 342, which placed him 28th. Junior Eric Schultz finished 39th with a total of 380 after an 88 in Sunday's final round.

Senior Tyler Thompson had his second straight round of 84 Sunday in the tournament, and Thompson was handling the place kicking and punting duties for the Moravian football team during the opening two rounds of the championship and unable to play. Freshman James Lobb also missed the first two rounds last fall, and he shot a 95 for the Greyhounds on Sunday.

Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Monday, April 22nd at the Muhlenberg College Invitational beginning at 12:30 p.m. at the Lehigh Country Club.
