Greyhounds Win 4th Straight with Victory over St. Thomas Aquinas

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's lacrosse team won its fourth straight contest with an 8-3 non-conference victory over NCAA Division II St. Thomas Aquinas College at Rocco Calvo Field Wednesday afternoon.

"We're a young team so there are going to be some ups and downs but we didn't play particularly well today; however, we were able to do enough good things to get the win," commented Head Coach Dave Carty.

Freshman attack James Carroll led the Greyhounds with three goals while freshman attack Mark Laratta added a pair of goals after missing three contests with an injury. Freshman attack Jack Gozzard, freshman midfielder Christopher Klodowski and freshman defender John Polich each scored a goal for Moravian. Freshman midfielder Alec Oriolo added two assists while freshmen midfielders AJ Cioffi and Dominick Gurreri each had one assist.

Freshman goalie Kurt Dick made nine saves in 53 minutes of action with two ground balls while freshman Trevor Bickel had two saves in the final seven minutes. Polich led the Greyhounds with seven ground balls and three caused turnovers while junior defender Ed Delia had four ground balls and three caused turnovers. Freshman midfielder Hayden DuPont was 5-of-8 on face-offs with three ground balls.

Laratta opened the scoring just over five minutes into the first quarter, and Klodowski and Gozzard added goals to make it 3-0 for the Greyhounds after 15 minutes of action. Carroll scored his first goal late in the second quarter before the Spartans tallied to set the halftime score at 4-1.

Laratta scored again to start the third quarter just over three minutes in, and St. Thomas Aquinas answered. Polich netted his first career goal with 6:49 left in the third period, and a man-up goal from Carroll had Moravian leading 7-2 after 45 minutes of action. Each team scored in the final two minutes of the contest with Carroll finding the cage to finish his hat trick.

Moravian, now 9-2 on the season, is scheduled to return to action on Wednesday, April 13 in a non-conference match versus Neumann University beginning at 4:00 p.m. at Rocco Calvo Field.
