Basketball Teams Part of Community Service Efforts During Week of January 7th

Basketball teams in Cops N Kids reading program

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's and women's basketball teams will be participating in three community service projects during the week of January 7th.

The squads will be participating in the Cops 'n' Kids literacy program by traveling to William Penn Elementary School on Monday, January 7th and Thomas Jefferson Elementary School on Thursday, January 10th to read books to the students.  Recently, Cops 'n' Kids donated its 500,000 free book in the Lehigh Valley.

On Friday, January 11th at 9:30 a.m., the basketball teams will be part of the Dream and Believe Event at Fountain Hill Elementary School.  This event is a joint effort between various community agencies including Cops 'n' Kids; Leading Edge Martial Arts, which is providing specialty work in self-discipline; Alonzo Gross, an award winning dancer, writer, poet and music producer; Gloria Domina, founder of Women In Art in PA, a Grammy winning producer and an advocate against bullying; Jill Dunn from Pennsylvania Youth Theater, who has trained the Moravian basketball teams to facilitate drama workshops to develop self-esteem and dreams for the future.  WFMZ Sports Director Troy Hein will also be attending the event along with Mayor Bethlehem, John Callahan, a 1991 Moravian graduate.

The Moravian basketball teams will also host a clinic on Martin Luther King Day, Monday, January 21st, on campus from 1-3 pm for the St. Jane's grade school boys and girl's teams.
