Wright & Strayhorn Named to Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball Team of the Year; Wright Named Player of the Year

Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball Organization Team of the Year

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Sophomore Alexis Wright and senior D.J. Strayhorn from the Moravian College basketball teams have been named to the Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball Team of the Year by the Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball Organization at its final luncheon of the 2012-13 season at Starters Restaurant in Bethlehem.

Wright was selected as the Pete Nevins Women's Player of the Year in a vote by the media, coaches and sports information directors in attendance. Wright is the third Moravian women's basketball player to earn this honor. Kelly Applegate (2005-06) and Kate Harrison (2009-10) were the previous winners.

"She's one of the most athletic players that has come through Moravian," said Head Coach Mary Beth Spirk. "She changes the game on the offensive and defensive end."

 Wright, a forward, has helped Moravian to a 20-3 overall record and an 11-1 Landmark Conference record. The Greyhounds have already clinched their 12th straight postseason appearance as well. Wright leads the Greyhounds with averages of 16.3 points and 11.5 rebounds per game to go with her 44 blocks, 44 steals and 32 assists. Wright recorded the first 20-20 in school history versus DeSales University (11/20/12) off of 28 points and 20 rebounds.

Joining Wright on the Team of the Year were Emily Soper of Delaware Valley, Sondrine Glovas from DeSales, Jessica Martin of East Stroudsburg, Ashley Wood from Kutztown and Alita Zabrecky of Muhlenberg.

Strayhorn, a guard, has helped Moravian men to a 14-9 record and a 6-6 mark in Landmark Conference play. Strayhorn is currently averaging 15.3 points per game to go with his 63 rebounds and team-high 85 assists, 43 steals and 39 three-pointers. He is also shooting .790 (83-for-105) from the charity stripe this winter.

Joining Strayhorn on the Team of the Year were Jeremy Beckett of Delaware Valley, Brett Moyer from DeSales, Whis Grant of East Stroudsburg, Micah Fraction from Kutztown and Malique Killing of Muhlenberg. Grant was selected as the Pete Nevins Men's Player of the Year in a vote by the media, coaches and sports information directors in attendance.

The Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball Organization is made up of the seven small college schools in the Lehigh Valley including NCAA Division II schools East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania and Kutztown University of Pennsylvania and NCAA Division III schools Cedar Crest College, Delaware Valley College, DeSales University, Moravian College and Muhlenberg College.
