Men's Basketball Defeats Haverford, 76-67

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Moravian College men's basketball team defeated Haverford College, 76-67, Monday evening. Freshman guard Jarrod Dilts led the way for the Greyhounds with a career-high 20 points while added four rebounds.

Junior forward Brett Cohen tallied the first bucket for the fords. Senior guard Cam Baker followed with a layup and a three-pointer for the 7-0 lead. Junior center Cameron Cullen made a layup for the Greyhounds to make the score 7-2 three minutes in.

A lay-in by freshman forward Matt Bosch made the score 11-5 four minutes in. Baker answered with back-to-back layups to go up 15-5 six minutes into the contest. After trading scores, junior center Blake English hit a 15-footer, and senior guard Garrett Johnson followed with a three and a lay-in to bring Moravian within three points at 17-14 eight minutes into the game.

Haverford pushed its lead back to eight, but a three by sophomore guard Izel Dickerson and a layup by senior forward Aaron Thieme made the score 22-19, Fords, with 8:19 to go in the half. A three by sophomore guard Lucass Colombo put Haverford up 27-19 with 6:35 to play.

Moravian then went on a 6-0 run with back-to-back three's from Dilts and Bosch to make the score 27-25 with 4:40 to play in the half. Dilts then scored the Greyhounds final nine points of the half off of three three-pointers. The Fords managed to take a 37-34 lead into halftime after a last second lay-in by sophomore guard James Levine.

Senior guard D.J. Strayhorn added the first bucket of the second half. Bosch followed with layup of his own for the 38-37, Greyhound lead two minutes in. Dilts added a three, and Cullen hit a lay-in for the 43-37 lead five minutes into the half. A free throw by freshman guard Anthony Reyes ended the Fords six minute scoreless drought to make the score 43-38.

English sent home a dunk with 13:22 to play for the 47-38 lead. After exchanging scores, Haverford went on a 6-0 run with points by Baker, sophomore guard Louis Cipriano and Cohen to put the score at 49-46 with ten minutes to play.

Cullen ended that run with a fast break lay-in for the 51-46 lead with nine minutes to play. Cullen added another lay-in while Dilts matched that on the next possession for the 55-46 lead. Cohen ended Moravian's run with lay-in of his own to put the score at 55-48 with 7:34 to play.

After trading scores Dilts hit another three from the corner to put Moravian up 61-52 with five minutes to play. English hit his second dunk of the game with four minutes to play to put the Greyhounds up 65-55. The Fords would get as close as five points of the lead, but fall to Moravian in the end, 76-67.

Cullen tallied his third double-double off the season off of 13 points and a career-best 14 rebounds. Johnson had 11 points and six assists while Strayhorn finished with ten points, five rebounds four assists, and three steals. Thieme added three blocks while Bosch put up nine points. English had eight points and four boards.

Cohen led the Fords with 24 points and eight rebounds while Baker finished with 24 points, five rebounds and four steals.

Moravian shot 45-percent from the field while Haverford shot 50-percent from the field. The Greyhounds held the edge in rebounds at 40-27 while the Fords committed one less turnover.

Moravian returns to the court on Wednesday, January 30th as they host Landmark Conference foe Drew University. The contest is set for 7 p.m.
