Men's Basketball Rallies in 2nd Half But Falls to Albright

READING, Pa. – The Moravian College men's basketball team fell to Albright College, 85-74, on Saturday night in the Albright Tournament. Junior center Cameron Cullen racked up a career-high 18 points to go with his five rebounds while also being named to the All-Tournament Team.

Back-to-back shots from Cullen and senior forward Aaron Thieme gave the Greyhounds a quick 4-0 lead right out of the gate. Junior guard Kyle Jordan for the Lions tallied five straight points to put Albright up 7-6 three minutes into the game. Cullen and senior guard D.J. Strayhorn regained the lead for Moravian with back-to-back shots for a 10-7 lead.

A deep three-pointer from Strayhorn five minutes into the contest extended the Hounds lead to five points at 15-10. Albright then went on a 6-0 run to retake the lead at 16-15 with 12 minutes left in the half. Both teams kept exchanging shots until the Lions broke through with a layup from senior guard Dave Singleton to go up 31-28 with five minutes left in the first half. Junior center Blake English ended Albright's run by making a free throw to make the score 38-29, Albright. The Lions kept its lead for the rest of the first half by taking a 46-34 lead into the locker room.

Moravian shot 46-percent from the field while Albright shot 51-percent from the field in the first half. The Lions held the rebounding edge at 23-15 while committing two less turnovers. Cullen led the Hounds in the first half with ten points while Jordan racked up nine points for the Lions.

Senior guard Garrett Johnson tallied the first bucket of the second half for the Hounds. Singleton answered back a minute later with a bucket of his own to make the score 48-36. Cullen then hit back-to-back layups to make the score 54-40, Albright five minutes into the second half.

A layup from English with 12 minutes left in the game put him in double-figure points while making the score 60-42, Lions. Moravian would go on a 9-0 run with a layup and two three's capped by Johnson to make the score 66-55, Albright with eight minutes left in the game.

Back-to-back free throws from Johnson would cut Albrights lead back to single-digits at 70-61 with 5:31 to play. At the 3:06 mark, English dunked the ball home, and Cullen follows that up with a layup on the next possession to make the score 78-68, Lions. A minute later Cullen connected on another layup, but Jordan answered back for Albright with a layup of his own to make the score 80-70. It was too little too late for the Greyhounds as they fell to the Lions 85-74.

Johnson racked up 17 points, five rebounds and three assists while English had 15 points, six boards and two blocked shots. Strayhorn put up 14 points, four assists, four rebounds and two steals in the game while also being named to the All-Tournament Team.

Singleton recorded a double-double for Albright off of 19 points and 12 rebounds. Jordan put up 17 points and four rebounds while senior center Zach Benjamin added 15 points and six rebounds.

The Greyhounds shot 45-percent from the field while the Lions shot 51-percent from the field for the game. Albright held the edge in rebounds at 42-37 while committing two less turnovers for the game.

The Greyhounds return to action on Tuesday, November 20th as they host DeSales University in their home opener. The contest is scheduled for 8 p.m.
