Erney & Hudson Earn Centennial Conference Weekly Football Honors

Doug Erney '21 and Aaron Hudson '18 named as the Centennial Conference Football Offensive and Special Teams Athletes of the Week.

LANCASTER, Pa. --- Moravian College freshman quarterback Doug Erney and senior wide receiver Aaron Hudson have been honored by the Centennial Conference as the Football Offensive and Special Teams Athletes of the Week for their performances in the Greyhounds' 35-18 victory over Dickinson College at Rocco Calvo Field Saturday.

Erney had the best day of his career throwing the ball for the Blue and Grey as he completed 13-of-19 passes for 290 yards and three touchdowns. Erney threw scoring strikes of 27, 65 and 75 yards with the final touchdown to Hudson on the first play of the third quarter. Erney also ran the ball seven times for 40 yards with a long of 15 yards as he picked up 330 yards of total offense in just three quarters of action.

"We have seen steady improvements from Doug each week this season," stated Head Coach Jeff Pukszyn. "His pocket presence has gotten better and he has the ability to go the distance with his feet as well. Doug played very well on Saturday. He did a good job managing the game and it showed in both the pass and run game."

Hudson had an outstanding Senior Day for the Greyhounds as he blocked a pair of extra-points by the Red Devils. Hudson lined up on the left end on all three PATs by Dickinson, and he got a hand on the first attempt to send it wide and fully blocked the second attempt right to the ground. Hudson nearly got to the Red Devil's third extra-point attempt of the game that was blocked by junior Jacob Kober. Hudson's only reception of the afternoon was his 75-yard touchdown, his tenth career touchdown. Hudson moved into tenth in school history with 1,456 receiving yards with the pass, which was his 118th catch that ranks seventh in the Moravian record books.

"Aaron has always been a team first guy and that certainly showed on Saturday," commented Pukszyn. "We asked him to take on another role on special teams and come off the edge on our extra point block team and it paid big dividends for us all day. Aaron is a great leader and has a tireless work ethic. He sets a great example for the younger players in the program."

The Hounds are scheduled to close out their 2017 season in a Centennial Conference game at rival Muhlenberg College with kickoff slated for 1:00 p.m. The game will be broadcast by TV-2 Sports.
