Hounds Fall at Susquehanna on Late Goal in Landmark Conference Action

SELINSGROVE, Pa. --- The Moravian University field hockey squad tied the match up early in the fourth quarter only to see host Susquehanna University score again with less than five minutes remaining to hand the Greyhounds a 2-1 loss in Landmark Conference action on a rainy Saturday afternoon.

How It Happened

  • The squads played a scoreless first half of the contest
  • The River Hawks netted the first goal of the match with just 1:52 left in the third quarter on an unassisted goal
  • The Hounds found the equalizer 2:26 into the fourth quarter as sophomore forward Gia Ambrosino knocked in a pass from senior defender Onalee Long on a penalty corner
  • Susquehanna scored the winning goal with 4:41 remaining with a goal on a penalty corner

Inside the Numbers

  • Ambrosino scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season, and her fifth career goal while Long notched her first assist of 2023 and sixth of her career
  • Freshman goalie Maia Machado recorded a pair of saves in the match
  • The River Hawks had a 6-3 edge in shots and a 10-5 advantage in penalty corners
