Kody Long honored as Landmark Conference Men's Golf Senior Scholar-Athlete.

TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian College senior Kody Long has been honored as the 2019 Landmark Conference Senior Scholar-Athlete for Men's Golf.

The Landmark Conference selects 22 senior scholar athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics. The honorees must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors, senior woman administrators and sports information directors. Chosen at the conclusion of each sport season, the 10 spring honorees are being announced this week.

Long helped the golf team to a third place finish this season at the Landmark Conference Championships as he tied for 19th in the 36-hole tournament. He averaged 81.71 strokes per round in 2018-19 while playing 14 rounds, and Long had a season-low 74 at Moravian's Spring Invitational at Southmoore Golf Course. Long's first two seasons were part of the Empire 8 Conference before the Landmark Conference began sponsoring a championship tournament in 2017-18. Long earned Empire 8 All-Conference Second Team honors in 2016-17 with a sixth place finish while shooting 320 over the 72-hole tournament with two rounds in the fall and two in the spring. He also helped Moravian to a third-place finish at the Empire 8 Tournament in 2016-17 and a runner-up finish in 2015-16 when he competed in the two spring rounds at the Hershey Country Club.

Long played in 44 rounds over his career, and finished with an 82.14 stroke per round career average. He posted a career low round of 73 in the fourth and final round of the 2016-17 Empire 8 Conference Championships at the Hershey Country Club. Long had a pair of top-five finishes in his career and nine top-ten finishes.

Off the course, Long had a 3.68 GPA while majoring in finance with a minor in marketing. He is a two-time member of the Landmark Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll, and he made the Empire 8 Conference President's List after the fall semester of his sophomore year. Long was also on Moravian's Dean's List in all eight semesters, and he was part of the Greyhounds' Chi Alpha Sigma National Athlete Honor Society in both 2018 and 2019. Long was a member of Moravian's Investment Club, and he was served as the treasurer for the Greyhounds' Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

"Kody has been a great leader both on and off the course all four years," stated Head Coach Kevin Edwards. "He has demonstrated great work ethic both on the course and in the classroom and is a very deserving recipient of this award."

Long is Moravian's 30th Landmark Conference Senior Scholar-Athlete since the conference began in 2007-08, and he is the first men's golf student-athlete to be honored.
