Greyhounds Lead Early But Fall at Merchant Marine

KINGS POINT, N.Y. --- The Moravian University men's lacrosse team had a 4-0 lead early in the second quarter before falling to host The United States Merchant Marine Academy, 12-8, in non-conference action Saturday.

How It Happened

  • The Hounds scored the only two goals of the first quarter as junior midfielder Aaron Judge and freshman attack Nick Coffaro both found the goal after a scoreless first eight minutes of the contest
  • Moravian extended the lead to 4-0 in the first 2:40 of the squad quarter as senior attack Trevor Dzama and Judge each hit the net with goals. However, the Mariners scored the next five goals including one with just six seconds until halftime as Merchant Marine had a 5-4 edge at the intermission
  • USMMA began the third quarter with another five consecutive goals to make it a 10-0 run before Coffaro put the Blue & Grey back on the scoreboard. Judge and Dzama both scored again to close the deficit to 10-7 before the Mariners scored twice more to lead 12-7 after 45 minutes of action
  • The Hounds netted the only goal of the final quarter as graduate student attack Connor James scored at the 6:15 mark

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had five players register a point with Judge leading the way with three goals and an assist while Coffaro and Dzama both had two goals
  • James finished with a goal while junior midfielder Steven Salica had an assist
  • Senior long stick midfielder Matt Baer contributed five ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers while sophomore defender Mike Sickler had four ground balls and junior defender Jason Levy added three ground balls
  • Junior midfielder Aden Moskovitz caused three turnovers while junior midfielder Kyle Weiss had two caused turnovers and a pair of ground balls
  • Junior face-off specialist Gannon Mesko was 10-for-21 on face-offs, and he scooped up seven ground balls
  • Junior goalie Thomas Lee recorded 15 saves in the contest
