Hounds Drop Non-Conference Contest to Berry in Florida

DAVENPORT, Fla. --- The Moravian University men's lacrosse squad dropped a 12-8 non-conference contest to Berry (Ga.) College at Northeast Regional Park in Davenport, Florida Saturday.

How It Happened

  • The Greyhounds jumped out to a 1-0 lead just over a minute into action as senior attack Trevor Dzama scored off a pass from sophomore attack Vincent Devito. Berry countered with a goal to knot the score before sophomore attack Ryan Kokoszka hit the net for a goal to put the Blue & Grey up 2-1. The Vikings tallied the next two goals for a 3-2 edge while graduate student attack Connor James scored off a feed from Dzama as Moravian pulled even at 3-3 after 15 minutes of action
  • The Hounds retook the lead a minute and a half into the second quarter as junior midfielder Kyle Weiss netted a goal from freshman attack Nick Coffaro. Berry tied the match at 4-4 before Devito put a pass from senior attack Brennan Fluehr into the net for a 5-4 edge with 7:58 left in the second period. The Vikings netted two goals as part of an 8-0 run to take a 6-5 advantage at the intermission
  • Berry tallied the only four goals scored in the third quarter to extend its lead to 10-5
  • The Vikings tallied two goals to begin the fourth quarter for a 12-5 edge. Moravian finished off the period with goals from Fluehr, Devito and Dzama in the final four and a minutes of action 

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had seven players record a point in the contest with Dzama and Devito both collecting two goals and an assist. Devito added a pair of ground balls
  • Fluehr had a goal and an assist while Kokoszka, James and Weiss all netted one goal with Weiss contributing four ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers
  • Coffaro registered two assists while junior midfielder Steven Salica had four ground balls
  • Junior face-off specialist Gannon Mesko was 13-for-30 on face-offs with six ground balls while senior Connor Estes was 2-for-4 on face-offs
  • Sophomore defender Mike Sickler recorded four caused turnovers and three ground balls while junior midfielder Aden Moskovitz and junior defender Austin Hittle both had three ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers and junior midfielder Aaron Judge scooped up three ground balls
  • Freshman goalie Liam Kelly made six saves in 41 minutes of action in his collegiate debut while junior goalie Thomas Lee posted two saves in 19 minutes of action
