Dzama Breaks Moravian Career Scoring Record as Hounds Win at Lycoming to Clinch Landmark Conference Tournament Berth

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. --- The Moravian University men's lacrosse team posted an 11-5 victory at Lycoming College in Landmark Conference action Saturday to clinch a berth in the 2024 Landmark Conference tournament as the Greyhounds snapped a 4-4 halftime tie with a 7-1 second half.

How It Happened

  • The Hounds opened the scoring 1:43 into the contest as sophomore attack Ryan Kokoszka netted a man-up goal. Lycoming scored three minutes later before junior midfielder Aaron Judge put the Blue & Grey back on top a little over a minute later. The Warriors scored again before Kokoszka found the net for the second time to give Moravian a 3-2 edge after 15 minutes of action
  • The second quarter would be scoreless until the 5:51 mark when Lycoming tied the contest at 3-3. Judge scored 31 seconds later to restore the Moravian advantage. However, the Warriors would get one more goal to send the squads to the intermission all tied at 4-4
  • Lycoming opened the second half with a goal less than two minutes into play for its first lead of the contest. The Greyhounds countered at the 12:34 mark when junior midfielder Dan Kelly found the net off a pass from senior attack Trevor Dzama as Dzama recorded the 198th point of his career to break the Moravian school record. Dzama gave the Hounds the lead for good at the 7:34 mark with a goal, and he scored once more in the period along with freshman attack Nick Coffaro as the Blue & Grey led 8-5 after 45 minutes of play
  • The Hounds did all the scoring in the fourth quarter with junior midfielder Steven Salica netting one goal and Judge scoring twice

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had eight players register a point led by Judge, who netted four goals to go with a pair of ground balls
  • Dzama had two goals and two assists to become the first player in program history to reach 200 career points, and he also has the school record with 127 career assists. Dzama added a pair of ground balls in the match
  • Kokoszka finished with two goals and an assist while Kelly added one goal and one assist
  • Coffaro and Salica each had a goal with Coffaro adding two ground balls while junior defender Austin Hittle and freshman goalie Liam Kelly both had assists with Hittle scooping up three ground balls
  • Kelly made 13 saves in 56 minutes of action while senior goalie Avery Napolitano made one stop in the final four minutes
  • Junior face-off specialist Gannon Mesko was 18-for-20 on face-offs with ten ground balls as he became the first player in program history to win 200 face-offs in a single season, now 212-of-337 this spring
  • Senior long stick midfielder Matt Baer scooped up nine ground balls while junior midfielder Aden Moskovitz had three ground balls and three caused turnovers
  • The Hounds had a 47-31 advantage in shots, a 37-17 edge in ground balls, were 18-for-20 on face-offs and 23-for-25 on clearing attempts
